i was just thinking about this cuz some people praise/worship some movies even though they aren't really that good.. some of them are even horrible! (take for example "chicago" and "kill bill, vol. i)

here is a list of how i grade/critique a movie...
1. acting
2. plot/story
3. ability to draw in audience
4. story pace
5. character development
6. filming/cinematography
7. reality level (depending on genre)

these are just a couple of the basic ones i guess...

oh..! also, if you wanna put down like a list of movies you think people praise for no good reason.. that'd be great..! hehe..

here's a short list of mine...
1. kill bill, vol. i
2. chicago
3. the alamo
4. the harry potter series!!!!!!!!!
5. underworld (stupid fake vamps!)
6. amelie
7. swimming pool
8. 13
9. swim fan
10. star wars series!!!!!!!!!!! (must.. kill... them... ALL!!!!!!!!!!!)

yup.. that's about it... (i'm sorry if i'm offending anyone out there.. i just feel that people are praising the wrong movies!!!)

i would agree with ur list of "no good movies".... with the exception of kill bill, duh.... _dry.gif can u further explain ur reasons for putting it on the "no good" list? r u saying that it didn't have a good story? good acting? or the "ability" to draw audiences in? you didn't really say WHY the movie wasn't worth praising.

i would also challange the "reality level" part of ur list... we watch movies to escape reality, and if u want something more "real," y watch movies?

i say star wars should go on the good movie list. it fits all of your standards except reality, which is why its someitmes so interesting. you have to look at the back story of the hero's journey that happens in those movies.

i'm sorry.. i think i was misunderstood..
when i said reality level, i was trying to say this...
you know how "star wars" is supposed to be set in the future when they're all high tech.. they have those glowing sword thingy and big machines to fight with, right? so if they're so advanced, why do they dress like crap, like they're in the middle ages or something? if they're so advanced, why are the machines so weird and slow???
or maybe like.. kill bill! why does uma thurman have super human strength..?? yea, she's supposed to be really good with the sword and all that.. but she's human.. the movie never mentioned a part where she got pumped with steroids or maybe a syrum that makes her really strong.. so why is she still standing after getting hit with the spiked metal ball TWICE in the chest?? how can she fight off all those people and not get mortally wounded?? it's just not possible..
i guess what i'm trying to say is that the movie should be consistent. if they want it to be advanced, make everything advanced.. if they wanna make the character a super soldier or something like that.. they should at least have presented something to back it up...

as for kill bill, vol. i....
what was the main story? she wanted to kill a person named bill.. simple as that.. -_- . . .
acting.. please.. the dialogues in the movie make it seem so weird.. uma thurman doesn't speak colloquially.. normal people don't speak like that. i can't quote a line from the movie cuz i don't have a great memory.. but anyway.. it's near the beginning where she's gets her revenge on the african-american lady... so weird...
plus.. what the hell was the kid doing?? isn't she smart enough to call the police??? (this grievance doesn't really fall under any of those thngs i said.. i'm just annoyed at the stupidity of the character..!!)

uhmm.. i'll continue this some other time.. gotta get to work..

Kill Bill is about taking revenge on her former lover and boss, who backstabbed her, killed everyone she knew, and tookaway her child

Mabye not the greatest story in the world, but its classic Taratino, great movies dont always need agreat plot.....like...hmm...Titanic....all that is is some poor guy meeting a rich girl and he dies...

kill bill is just so weird..! i mean, yes, there are movies with simple plots that are good. just like you mentioned earlier.. Titanic.. that movie was great.. but not because of the story.. it was great for the cinematography.. for the make up, the music, and the acting. those are the reasons why Titanic was so great. what does kill bill have?

but anyway.. we're getting off topic here.. i was mainly looking for standards that people have in rating movies.. rubrics, if you will.. and movies you that you think are praised too much for no reason... so please.. let's stop discussing kill bill.. it's just annoying..
