Does anyone know the purpose of a promise ring? I understand it as a ring given to someone with the intention of marrying them in the future sometime. I also heard that it is usually given like a year or two before you propose. XP So... what bout you peeps? Is this what a promise ring is?? XP

yea its all those stuff but it can also b a promise to be friends forever or something like that but some promise rings can be about any promise you want

a promise ring dont have to be *a promise for marriage*...Jessica Simpson's dad gave her a Promise Ring on being a virgin till marriage. I think a promise ring is to just promise u wont do bad things and stuff. it could be for marriage but i has other purposes too

My bestfriend Jake gave me a promise ring when he told me he loves me. But we only lasted for two days as couples, something came up. Were still bestfriends till today. Here's what he said:
I'm giving you this promise ring so I can marry you some time. Just kidding, I want you to know that I'm always here for you, I love you. I promise you that I will love you like a sister, a girlfriend, and a friend forever. It was sweet, that wasn't the exact thing he said, but I did all my best to remember it! -hEaRt </3 |

I think they are mainly for people who can't be engaged for a loong time...so they give them that as a promise to one day be engaged and marry them

Yeah.
They have many purposes. You can exchange them with friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, family.. anyone. It's just for a really important reason or vow.. |

I've been thinking about the future lately, the future with my girlfriend, that is, and I've been considering giving her a promise ring. The thing is, I don't know exactly what a promise ring entails. What's the purpose, or even if it's appropriate to. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

i think a promise ring is to wear (from bf or gf) to promise to always stay loyal or something... and hopefully get married in the future. i think?
