John Legend is the shit too.

But my fave MC right now is Common. I love his music videos too, especially 'Come Close' with Mary J. Blige.

Haha, I was a sucker for that one.

//EDIT

QUOTE
Underground
Un•der•ground (un’der ground’), n., adj.

1) A genre in music and other forms of media intended for an elite audience, that is often characterized by its high levels of originality and experimentation, and does not conform to typical standards, trends, or hypes as set by the popular mainstream media.

link: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?...underground&r=f

So I guess under this definition, the artists we've listed would be considered underground... except for Eminem... blink.gif

now all i have to say for myself is -- " how did i EVER like mainstream .. " ..

^ it was never an official topic and it had over 21 pages.

And I just copied my favorite musicians list from xanga, it was mostly underground and I didn't feel like making a new one, so there you go. And read roxanne's definition of underground too, if that means anything.

lets get some music discussion in here.

Not sure. The dude's been mad busy with acting and stuff... but I'd be more than happy if he released another. Would be even better if he hooked back up with Talib Kweli and dropped another classic album.

Well Mos just did 'The hitchhikers Guide' which was pretty boring to be honest, lol.

But I hear they're going to make 'The Italian Job 2'.

And Mos Def has been in the recording studio as of late, I think. I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing a follow-up to 'The New Danger'. And I think we'll see a new Blackstar album maybe within this year.

I'll find links to this ish.

so my cds (blood brothers, elected, manitoba, q and not u) came yesterday, and i love all of them. highly recommended.

i also have been listening to a lot of miss kittin lately. "stock exchange", "house of god", and "harlot" are all so damn catchy.

oh, and this may be a long shot, but does anyone have any gasoline please songs? i can't find any of them on limewire, and they broke up about a month ago so the links to them on their site don't work.

listened the to JUICE CD again today... one of my favorite verses

QUOTE
Black way of thinking, I'm done with it, I'm through with it
Why they call it black mail, f**k I have to do with it
I never knew they'd punk, every black crack one day
The stock market crashed, and they called it black Monday
*black* kids are ghetto, *black* cats are bad luck
Wear black at funerals, to me it doesn't add up
But I don't give a mad f**k, what you try and label me
I'm one black nigga getting paid from using ABC's
Black are less intelegent, rap is just irrelevant
And in most black neighborhoods, crack is just so prevalent
Disproportionately, I see black put up on death row
And not the one in Interscope either, where all the rest go
And it's still Ok to tell a little white lie
Cops pull over black kids, the black kid, he might die
But no matter what they say, how we destroy the world
I love these *black* boys and girls
A nigga's proud to be *black*

^ they did a split together i believe, and i'm pretty sure they also are from omaha. i love "it's worse when you're young" by them, though "dances fantastic" and "i'll be your friend" (ft. bright eyes) are good too.

i'm in love with "air conditions" by q and not u. and if you can stand good music with a folky sound you'll love "my baby's a d**k" by the elected and "the devil and my family" by ghost mice.

Here is the current list. Its short I know, I dont listen to much underground, please don't bash me for my lack of taste in music. cry.gif

Fatty Koo- I heard so many different genres of music when I listened to their song "Bounce" which included : Rap, R&B, Classical, and Jazz. (Their show comes on BET)
Common- Probably one of the realist hip hop artist out there. His latest album his a classic.
Talib Kweli]- Very moving and inspirational
Mos Def - Nice Style and Flavor
Alicia Keys- So much soul and class, and a nice personality goes a long way
Musiq Soulchild- Very soulful singer, I still wonder what happened to him
Kanye West- Doesn't normally rap about the normal elements in todays rap.
E. Badu- You just better call Tyrone

------------------------
Ja Rule- well he is definitely underground now.
Bone Crusher - because Jason said he was Underground. happy.gif

-the new pornographers
-mates of state
-the microphones
-azure ray
-pedro the lion
-the new year
-now its overheard
-matt pond pa
-the french kicks

ok, so most if not all of them have already been mentioned, but i got carried away. i want my old mp3s back cry.gif

also, you should probably know that my definition of underground is something that i can talk about in school and 5 out of 6 people wont know who im talking about. this may not be the most accurrate measure, seeing as most of my friends dont care/know that much, but still

even though they're not really underground, i finally downloaded some sigur ros songs. i love "staralfur"... a lot. ambulance ltd (i got them from you sammi!) are also good. other bands worth mentioning: bikini kill, le shok, meat beat manifesto, orbital, and the dears. and yeah, beulah is good.. i remember i found them and i didn't think sammi listened to them, and then i IMed her all excited and was like "you'd love them!" and it turns out she already did mellow.gif.

The Aislers Set
Sea Ray
Aveo
All-Time Quarterback (Ben Gibbard's old band... LO-FI goodness!)
American Football
Elbow
The Fiery Furnaces
Calls After Midnight (<33) they sort of remind me of Franz Ferdinand or Modest Mouse.. except better, IMO.
American Music Club
Anathema

And people mentioned Beulah a while back. They're awesome.

i absolutely love american football. i bought their lp about a year and a half ago, and i've been a fan ever since. it's such a shame that they broke up before releasing a larger amount of material.

there's something about frausdots that i enjoy, even though the singer's voice kind of gets on my nerves.

I'm not sure if Azure Ray can still be considered underground, but I heard their song "November" for the first time last week, and I really liked it. It sounds like the lead vocalist has a slight lisp, though.

Have you guys heard Communique? (They're not all that underground) They've been on my iPod since I first bought it, but I've never actually listened to them (intently) until today. Here's "Perfect Weapon" for you guys.

recently i've been enjoying a trillion barnacle lapse (which i'm pretty sure pauline mentioned early in version one), hint hint, the sick lipstick, and thunderbirds are go! also, if you're a big blood brothers fan, you might like the red light sting and ex models.

binary roulette. i didn't like most of their songs on the first listen, but i think they get better the more you listen.

edit: if you like electronic indie pop (or is this synthpop? meh) you should listen to figurine.

i never knew people actually used that thing. i use itunes since i have an ipod (and don't you too?) and i love it. then again, itunes for mac is a lot better than the experience i had with itunes for windows so.. yeah.

gratitude is another good band by jonah from onelinedrawing. he's also in far and new end original. it kind of confused me.

I have iTunes, but my entire library got erased when I got my computer reformatted (along with about 400 songs). :(

Does anyone know how to create an iTunes library out of the files you have on your iPod instead of your computer? Is that even possible?

Band(s):
- The Apples in Stereo

The Pernice Brothers - Baby in Two

^yes, there are tons of programs that put the files onto your computer from your ipod, and some import them into itunes for you. http://www.ipodlounge.com has a lot; i'll try to find you the one i used.

apples in stereo are good. my favorite song by them sadly is the powerpuff girls one, haha.

edit: i honestly cannot find or remember which program i used. i went through all of them on ipodlounge, and nothing! the only thing i remember is you had to plug in your ipod, put the .exe file onto your ipod, and run it from there. the only one that looked good to me was copypod. hope it works.

To solve her problem, you could insert the iPod, and on the pop up click "no" (you don't want to change your existing iPod's library to the one you have on your comp. right now), and then you will see on your right hand menu side Your iPod with a dropdown of all your playlists and such. Then, go to the lower left hand corner of your iTunes screen and click the iPod options button. On the pop up, instead of automatically arranging songs, go to manually manage the songs and the files. Then, you can switch music between the two libraries. The only downside is that you will have to well, manually manage everything. It takes a while, but that is what I did when my other computer crashed. Hope you fix your iPod! _smile.gif

oh, by the way, this is slightly off topic but i don't have much time

does anyone think rhapsodie (the $10 a month music downloading program) is worth it? do they have a decent amount of underground bands and such? i don't especially want it, but it's the only way i'm going to be allowed to download music at this point, since i'm being blamed for our new computer getting a virus/being hacked/he really doesn't even know what he's talking about

Thanks William and Rockstermonkey (I'm afraid I've never caught your name?).

I downloaded Copypod, but alas, it could only transfer 100 songs onto my computer unless I buy the full version. Then I used the advice RM gave, but because I am freakishly lazy, I decided to just download another program similar to Copypod and auto-sync (program = iPod Agent), and it works great (atleast so far).

Anyway, I've been hearing "Telescope Eyes" everywhere lately. I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad.

i used that, but i wasn't sure if you had the .net framework or whatever. i think that's the program where you need it.

ew. i haven't downloaded or found any new bands in four days. blasphemy! but i am ordering one of a trillion barnacle lapse's cds tonight... and since all the cds at sound virus are so cheap i might pick another one up, but i can't choose because i'm too damn indecisive.

it's time to go audioscrobbler/amazon/limewire whoring.
