I'm doing a survey on bullying for school. I'd do this in the Lounge, but I'd have n00bs posting weird stuff. So I though the people who come into the Homework section would appreciate it more and give useful input. You guys are special. lol

I forgot to add this:
Age: ____
Gender: ____

It's pretty long and I'm sorry about that. My teacher was impressed about the questions though. happy.gif

1. one
2. two
3. not that much (it would mostly be a no.. people just poke me but its not much of a bullying)
4. other: the impression that "oh he/she ain't gonna do anything"
5. two
6. maybe.. if they have the pessimistic fear of something bad will happen
7. boys. the media has a big impact of what guys should look like and how they act, so its most likely boys.
8. in my school... no
9. negative. that one song from lil scrappy (4got the name of the song, but it keeps promoting the summarized term "if u wanna fight, lets fight."
10. everybody is different, and we got similarities and differences. thats why it is impossible to have a utopia. There's this one quote that goes about how everybody has their own different viewpoint of a utopia.

i cant answer number eleven. sorry.

1) On a scale of 1 to 5, how big of a problem do you think bullying is? (1 means a small problem, 5 means a big problem)
Well it depends on the location. But on average, I would say about a 2-3.

2) On a scale of 1 to 5, how big of a problem do you think bullying is in your school? (1 means a small problem, 5 means a big problem)
1

3) Have you ever personally been bullied by another student?
No

4) On what basis have you been bullied or seen other students bullied at school? (Check all that apply)
Race

5) How often do you see bullying (in school or anywhere else)? (1 means never, 5 means very often)
2-3

6) How do you think bullying will affect a victim or bully during adulthood?
Hmm, for the victim, they might grow up to be hateful because of the bullying, or they might grow up in fear. For the bullies, they would get more violent and pick on weaker people because they might have gotten away with it so they think that they can always get away with it.

7) Do you think boys are more likely to be bullies than girls? Why or why not?
Boys will probably be more violent than girls

8) Relating to Q#7, do you think that sex-role stereotypes have something to do with it?
Perhaps. The boys might think that they are more dominant so they will try to assert that dominance...

9) Do you think the media displays bullying in a positive manner? Why or why not?
Hmm, I don't think the media displays bullying in a positive manner. It's not like they encourage or promote it.

10) Why do you think bullying occurs in schools and other work areas?
Because one person or one group of people feel that they are more capable (or stronger in the case of schools) than others and they get an ego boost when they pick on those that are either weaker or those that they know won't or can't fight back.

11) Do you think bullying is more of a sociological or psychological issue?
Hmm, I think it depends on the bullying. Some bullying may be psychological if the bully was bullied when he/she was a child or something. But then it can be a sociological issue because it is that person's behavior which is a problem. I dunno about this...

2) On a scale of 1 to 5, how big of a problem do you think bullying is in your school? (1 means a small problem, 5 means a big problem)
1 2 3 4 5
___________________________________________________________________

3) Have you ever personally been bullied by another student?
Yes No
___________________________________________________________________

4) On what basis have you been bullied or seen other students bullied at school? (Check all that apply)

__X__ Appearance/dress of a person
__X__ Friends a person hangs out with
__X__ Race
__X__ Sexual orientation
__X__ Other: financial setbacks, body size (physical strength, or the lack of)

____________________________________________________________________

5) How often do you see bullying (in school or anywhere else)? (1 means never, 5 means very often)
1 2 3 4 5
____________________________________________________________________

6) How do you think bullying will affect a victim or bully during adulthood?
It made me a better person. When I was bullied, beaten and made fun of, I hated the feeling. I promised myself that I will never make another person feel as bad I as I was made to feel in such a cowardly way.
____________________________________________________________________

7) Do you think boys are more likely to be bullies than girls? Why or why not?
I don't think it has anything to do with the sex of a bully. Girls can be just as capable of mental abuse and physical abuse as any boy. Now days, girls tend to take advantage of their popularity or even good grades to bully others.
____________________________________________________________________

8) Relating to Q#7, do you think that sex-role stereotypes have something to do with it?
Maybe. But I think home/family environment has more to do with it.
____________________________________________________________________

9) Do you think the media displays bullying in a positive manner? Why or why not?
It depends on what you're watching and how you interpret things. In the Simpson, bully Nelson is often depicted as stupid, but cool.
____________________________________________________________________

10) Why do you think bullying occurs in schools and other work areas?
Because there are people who cannot stand up for themselves. ____________________________________________________________________

11) Do you think bullying is more of a sociological or psychological issue?
Both.

Yes.

Appearance/dress of a person
Friends a person hangs out with
Race
Sexual orientation
Their accents and the way they talk..

____________________________________________________________________

6) How do you think bullying will affect a victim or bully during adulthood?
Teach their kid not to bully themselves.. if they have kids.
____________________________________________________________________

7) Do you think boys are more likely to be bullies than girls? Why or why not?
No. Both boys and girls bully. I think that because I've been bullied by both, having experience.
____________________________________________________________________

8) Relating to Q#7, do you think that sex-role stereotypes have something to do with it?
Sort of.
____________________________________________________________________

9) Do you think the media displays bullying in a positive manner? Why or why not?
Yes, because a lot of movies and shows display content of violence and bullying. In some cases, it's positively good. But those many of the movies/shows probably show a bully that "bullying/being violent" is cool since it's in a movie or a show.
____________________________________________________________________

10) Why do you think bullying occurs in schools and other work areas?
Because kids tend to pick on each other depending on their appearance. And school is somewhere where popularity, so they may pick on someone who doesn't exactly look like the cool kids.
____________________________________________________________________

11) Do you think bullying is more of a sociological or psychological issue?
No idea what those words mean.

check. Appearance/dress of a person

check, but not that much. but that might just be due to the lack of ethnicity in my school. Race
check. Sexual orientation
_____ Other _____________________

____________________________________________________________________

5) How often do you see bullying (in school or anywhere else)? (1 means never, 5 means very often)
1 2 3 4 5
____________________________________________________________________

6) How do you think bullying will affect a victim or bully during adulthood?

well, i only know from a victim's expereince. people may think making fun of others doesn't do much damage, but it does. lifetime damage. people are hurt from it long after the incident(s).
____________________________________________________________________

7) Do you think boys are more likely to be bullies than girls? Why or why not?

it doesn't matter what gender. physically, guys are more likely to bully. but girls can be just as vicious with words.
____________________________________________________________________

8) Relating to Q#7, do you think that sex-role stereotypes have something to do with it?

well, in the case of physical bullying, yes. boys seem to want to be tougher than others, and, in turn, beat up on other "smaller" boys. but girls are sometimes physical bullies too; maybe because they think there's something intimidating about a girl beating up on others for once.
____________________________________________________________________

9) Do you think the media displays bullying in a positive manner? Why or why not?

as in displaying bullying as a good thing? these days, no.
____________________________________________________________________

10) Why do you think bullying occurs in schools and other work areas?

kids are stressed and need something to take it out on, and there's a lot of competition with school and such. people have a status to maintain.
____________________________________________________________________

11) Do you think bullying is more of a sociological or psychological issue? Why?

definitely a social issue. people wanna be better at everything than others. it makes them feel good that they can be considered better and held up higher in the status chain.

1 2 3 4 5
____________________________________________________________________

6) How do you think bullying will affect a victim or bully during adulthood?

I think it could affect them a little bit..but it really all depends on the kind of bullying. If it's like, getting beaten up almost everyday, then that person could have major trust issues in the future. But if it's name calling..they SHOULD just get over it. That "bully" is just immature.
____________________________________________________________________

7) Do you think boys are more likely to be bullies than girls? Why or why not?

Both. But personally, I think girls do much more damage than guys, especially if it's to another girl. It's been proven, that because of the Limbic system in the brain, girls are more emotional/likely to get hurt. Plus female bullies just know what nerve to hit.
____________________________________________________________________

8) Relating to Q#7, do you think that sex-role stereotypes have something to do with it?

Kind of..guys seem to always want to appear victorious and strong, and girls just feel so insecure..
____________________________________________________________________

9) Do you think the media displays bullying in a positive manner? Why or why not?

What? Of course not. I really don't know how bullying can be displayed as positive, but a lot of the time, the "underdog's" revenge is displayed as that.
____________________________________________________________________

10) Why do you think bullying occurs in schools and other work areas?

People don't have enough outlets to take their anger out on, as Sammi said.
____________________________________________________________________

11) Do you think bullying is more of a sociological or psychological issue? Why?

Both. Something in the past could have happened to this bully that makes them act the way they do..they also might try to impress their friends..

6) How do you think bullying will affect a victim or bully during adulthood?
i think that someone who gets bullyed can have two different outcome. the person can either choose to toughen up and defend themselves or just let themselves be pushed around and become very insecure and have a very low self-esteem.

7) Do you think boys are more likely to be bullies than girls? Why or why not?
typically, yes. because boys are usually more aggressive whenever it comes problems and they usually dont' accept others as easily as females.

8) Relating to Q#7, do you think that sex-role stereotypes have something to do with it?
yes.

9) Do you think the media displays bullying in a positive manner? Why or why not?
_unsure.gif

10) Why do you think bullying occurs in schools and other work areas?
the main reason, IMO, is that others don't accept others as they are. others are afraid of others or some people are just mean so they choose to use them as their scapegoat and bully them.

11) Do you think bullying is more of a sociological or psychological issue? Why?
undecided. _unsure.gif

1) On a scale of 1 to 5, how big of a problem do you think bullying is? (1 means a small problem, 5 means a big problem)
1 2 3 4 5

2) On a scale of 1 to 5, how big of a problem do you think bullying is in your school? (1 means a small problem, 5 means a big problem)
1 2 3 4 5

3) Have you ever personally been bullied by another student?
Yes No

4) On what basis have you been bullied or seen other students bullied at school? (Check all that apply)

__x__ Appearance/dress of a person
__x__ Friends a person hangs out with
__x__ Race
__x__ Sexual orientation
__x__ Other What hobbies one has

5) How often do you see bullying (in school or anywhere else)? (1 means never, 5 means very often)
1 2 3 4 5

6) How do you think bullying will affect a victim or bully during adulthood?
Victim - May be a bit meaner or tougher depending on how bad he was bullied. If he was very badly treated, he may even abuse his children, pets, or other people.
Bully - He may live to regret it or he could turn into a criminal of sorts.

7) Do you think boys are more likely to be bullies than girls? Why or why not?
No. Girls are supposedly weaker than boys and because many refer to them as the inferior gender, they are probably going to be bullied more. I don't see people respecting girls anymore than boys at our school.
8) Relating to Q#7, do you think that sex-role stereotypes have something to do with it?
Sometimes. It's usually girl vs girl or boy vs boy.

9) Do you think the media displays bullying in a positive manner? Why or why not?
Not really, though people who want to rebel are often bullies and think they're "cool" because of the way the media displays bullies.

10) Why do you think bullying occurs in schools and other work areas?
People like the idea of being able to boss others around at places where they see the most people of their own age.

11) Do you think bullying is more of a sociological or psychological issue? Why?
I think it's a sociological issue. When people don't have friends, they tend to think, well it's better to have people scared of me than have them like me. I'll have way more power that way. Who needs them?

it will affect how they think. compliments make the person more self esteemed, rather than a rude remark which may make them less confident and/or sad
____________________________________________________________________

7) Do you think boys are more likely to be bullies than girls? Why or why not?

no, not really because i've seen the same amount of fights between both sexes. it doesn't matter.

9) Do you think the media displays bullying in a positive manner? Why or why not?

jealousy, hate, racism
