the "Can a person speak even this person is born deaf?. " topic gave me an idea for this ..

if you had to give up a sense, what would it be ?

think of tha difficulties .. and what you wouldn't be able to do without each sense ..

also, explain why would you give up that sense. Because without a particular sense, you could live life without it ? or that you want to put a challenge in your life and see what it's like ?

for me, i think i would give up taste , giving up being able to determine flavors .

without taste, i could eat foods that i think that taste bad, like some vegetables, and gett tha good nutrition. also, i wouldn't need to have a favorite food. i could eat anything [[ almost anything ]] i want and still be full !. I wouldn't have to worry about opening my cabinet, and find foods i don't like. i could just .. eat it .. and be full and be happy =] ..

i tried to search for another topic like this .. but it went to 25 pages .. and i couldn't search for "giving up a sense" .. i had to search "giving sense" .. "up" and "a" aren't long enough words ..

so what do you all think ?

while i agree with ur reasoning, i might pick giving up the sense of hearing. that way, i'd drown out all the stupid things people say and be in my own happy little world. but then i'd be taking away music and what not. so i guess i'd still go with loss of taste. although i will miss cheesecake so much..

Meh. Yeah, probably smell because it seems like I don't use it as often. I mean, obviously I need to still breathe, but if I'm demoted to some horrid job where I end up cleaning toilets, then I don't think the loss of smell would be too bad. Haha. Bleh. Not that that would ever happen. Still...everything else is what you use to say, discover the beauty in the world. Okay, now I'm just being a dork.

good topic.
i would hate to loose any of my senses! that would stink butt, but if i had to choose one i would choose...taste also.
just because i couldn't bare to live without all the rest of my senses.
i would definitley miss yummy dessert but maybe that would be the way to loose some weight!

I would either give up taste or smell but they both really coincide if you think about it so it might be hard to have one and not the other. Like, if you didn't have your sense of smell, things might not taste the same, or vice versa.
Anyway, I would give those up because I couldn't give up sight. I've already seen everything and how beautiful and how not beautiful things are and I would never want to live in darkness.
Also, I wouldn't give up hearing because I'm too in love with music and I'd miss hearing the voices of all the people I love and to hear laughter.
I couldn't give up touch because I mean what would be the point of touching something when everything would have the same texture and I don't know, it'd just be really weird. Plus, how would know if I was actually doing something because I wouldn't be able to feel myself touching it, like feeling the keys of the piano or something. Obviously you could hear it but I'm sure there are other instances I just can't think of right now. Oh, and not to sound all gross or something but some things you get pleasure out of it by the sense of touch like kissing someone, etc.
So yeah, I'd give up either taste or smell even though I really, really, really love food and how it tastes, but yeah.

I'd give up my sense of smell, because i think i would be able to live without it. It doesnt seem really important, as long you can see and hear and touch i think you will be fine lol.

i chose smell. because, i MIGHT choose taste but i would miss the good tastes of the foods i like, even if i wouldn't have the bad tastes of foods i don't like.

i was gonna put feel but then i decided against it because what i WOULD get rid of in feelings is depression/stress/anger/ that bad stuff. but not actually feeling itself.

I'd give up taste too. You could eat whatever without knowing how it tastes like. Lol. At times I can think of something and taste it. Yum. Right now I'm thinking about Strawberries and I'm tasting them. (mentally) Lol. Freaky eh?

Many people may disagree with me on this but I think each sense is of equal importance therefore it would be very hard for me to make a stable decision. Im pretty sure after losing a sense you really want know how important it was until you lost it.

However, just for the poll im going to say smell.

i would never give up my sight because i love to see things and i don't know how i would survive without being able to see.
i def wouldn't give up hearing because i could never be deaf either.
i have to be able to smell because i just want to be able to smell. :biggrin:smelling
and i could never part with the mouth-watering taste of food so no to getting rid of taste.
so that leaves me with feeling. i would get rid of that because you don't really need it that much. tongue.gif

I'll give up smelling, because it seems like I don't use it that much and I smell smelly things more than scented things.

I can't give up sight or hearing.
It would be really painful pinch.gif

It's great that the topic "Can a person speak even this person is born deaf" I brought up gave you idea to pull up this poll.
I would choose smelling, coz it seems taking the least from me. My dad can't smell and he seems alright with it. The most i treasure maybe hearing. I would rather die if i can't hear. Imagine I would not be able to hear any sound, especially I love piano, it would be horrible for me. And i won't be able to hear my bf says "i love you" anymore...that would be so sad.

That's only physical pain. And emotional hurt is so much worse.

I'd either give up the sense of smell or sight. Smelling isn't really that big of a deal, but sight - just to experience the heightened other senses, to understand the blindness, to just appreciate life without visual aestheticism.

Probably smell, out of everything you use in one day, you don't really...smell...anything. And as long as you can breathe, that's good enough for me!

giving up taste is the way to go. But, even if you can't taste something., you can still react to how it feels in your mouth. Like peas, i don't think i would eat them even if I lost my sense of taste because they really feel nasty in my mouth.
