If you're really into music, you'd actually know the lyrics to your favorite song by heart - and actually know what they mean! I mean, I know a lot of people who don't even know what they are singing about - that's kind of a problem sometimes.

Anyway, one of the greatest lyrics ever written must be Dispatch's The General, The Postal Service's Such Great Heights and there's probably plenty more.

We all know songs are just poetry set to music.

Anyway, I'm here to ask: Do you guys know the meaning to songs that you listen to? If so, what are some of the great lyrics ever heard?

i try to convince my friends that 50 cent/g-unit sucks .. and a lot of mainstream .. but nooOOoOoo .. i can't believe they listen to that crap ..

I do try and find out the meaning to lyrics.
I'll have my own meaning, and then I'll try and figure out the meaning of the author.

Slipknot's lyrics are wonderful. They may seem like just profane words, but they're actually really good.
Cradle of Filth's lyrics are great too.

That one line from Mockingbird from Eminem at the end of the song.. that surprised me there for a sec.

Deep words about love in songs do get in my heart. If you listen to the song very carefully and slowly (especialy slow songs/ballads), the song gets better for you.
Here's a good line:

I don't really think you can fully enjoy a song if you don't know the meaning behind it - every song has a meaning. Well, usually... there are always those exceptions of "artists" who don't even write their own material.

I think Evanescence and Daphne Loves Derby have some of the best lyrics ever. And Dashboard Confessional.

sadly, i do know what the lyrics mean.
cuz at night, when i can't sleep, i sit there and ponder the meaning of the lyrics and break them down into section by section and figure out something about the singer/band and their life.

hehe you wouldn't understand this because it's in korean. but this lyric is about not understanding her lover or if he's wrong about the truth. im more like curious and wandering girl. so this lyric really relates to my mind when it comes to liking guys.

i completely agree with you. so many ppl listen to a song but you dont really think about the lyrics and what the underline message is saying. personally, lyrics are the first thing that i pay attention to when hearing a new song. one of the songs that i love so much and i completely love the lyrics is-- "she will be loved"- maroon 5, "damn those eyes"-kane, and "can't make you love me"- bonnie raitt. i'll definately post up the lyrics if someone is interested ;)

One of the songs that I absolutely love is Michael Buble's Moondance cover of Van Morrison's! Though it's a light, jazz song I absolutely love the poetic rhythm to it.
