So I was talking to my friend yesterday and out of sheer randomness he told me that it was illegal for people so sell turtles in New Jersy.
If that is true, does anyone know why its illegal? |

I looked it up and it said that it's illegal to sell turtles that have been "dyed or artificially colored", which is still weird

It'd be fun to have a pink turtle..
 It makes sense that its illegal to sell dyed turtles... maybe stops people from doing it in the first place? It could be harmful and all.. |

Uh, I used to own 3 of those mini turtles. the really small ones. but they never ate! so they died when i went on vacation and i let someone take care of it and she said that these neighborhood kids kept playing with them and stuff.

I don't see why dying a turtle is illegal. More than 60% of the fish in the pet stores are dyed for your viewing pleasure.

I heard it was illegal because turtles had some kind of bacteria in them. I dunno...but if it was illegal because of dying it, I think that's a really odd reason.

I looked it up and it said that some people get sick because turtles carry salmonella so they're making it illeagal or something. Oh well... |

It's illegal to have pet turtles in Georgia
 I don't know if it's just for a certain type, but yeah. I was sad. When I was, like, four, I asked for a turtle and Daddy said no. Broke my heart. *Sob*

Yeah. I think it is illegal. It's spelled New Jersey, by the way. My mom told me it was. It's illegal also in NY, I think, and Pennsylvania. I wanted to have a turtle for a pet, so I went to the pet store, and the people there told me that turtles are illegal in NJ. I used to live there.

no it's not 0.0 I mean, I don't live in NJ (PA gurl and proud
 ), but I do own a farm ranch thing up there. But just as glit_gal said with they dye thing. It's only because the dyes can have chemicals that kill the turtles or adventually destroy the shell. So yea...

yeah its true. people told me that too (i live in jersey) you're not allowed to buy little turtles in the state as pets or anything...that's why a lot of people go to south carolina and bring them up.

There is a type of turtle that is illegal to sell in a lot of states, except for educational purposes. I forgot what they are called (those little ones that live in water more than a lot of other types of turtles), but they carry some kind of disease that keeps them from being carried as regular pets.
