"To be considered black in the United States not even half of one's ancestry must be African black. But will one-fourth do, or one-eighth, or less? The nation's answer to the question 'Who is black?" has long been that a black is any person with any known African black ancestry."

Uh...DUH! Even if you're 0.00000004% african american you STILL are a tad bit black. That doesn't mean that people will say that you're black, but technically you are. I don't know whats so surprising about that...but whatever.

Yes , no matter the percentage you will still be considered black , because not all black people ( by color ) are african american , like they can be haitian also.

I don't really consider her Black either, but she is legally Black and she considers herself Black. So... she's Black.

LOL.. Yeah of course I knew that. They all are African Black Ancestry when they are all called black. LOL where do you think black people came from?

Well you're not the only one who didn't know. My friend Jermaine thought he wasn't african because he is black. He thought black is enough of one word lol

There are five presidents RUMORED to Black: Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Abe Lincoln, Warren Harding, and possibly Eisenhower. There is a book written by a Black woman that argued for the rumor. If you're interested, do try to find it. However, it is ONLY A RUMOR and not a fact. Your teacher should have made that clear.

I have black in me. Like, literly a drop in a big bucket. Not enough to even show any signs. I just know because I've done a family tree. Anyway, I dont consider myself to be black.

What does make me made is that these boys that "act black" aren't, and they run around saying the "n" word and if someone else calls them that they get offended, or, if someone calls the white they get offended. Yeah, tdhat "n" word bothers me becuse I just don't like it. Grr.

well, for me, i guess i consider "black" people black by their skin color. if they have mixed blood, then they're mixed, not exactly black.

ha ha ha, that made me laugh so hard.

but using the 'one drop' logic, i'm black because my extremely distant ancestors were from africa. even though i have pale skin, blue/green eyes, and fairly straight hair. i don't consider myslef black, though.

Actually all black people are African or African American. No matter if you're from Haiti, West Indies or any of those other Carribean islands. Because their ancestors were taken from Africa and then brought to those places to settle. Basically what Im trying to say is all black people are African whether they like it or not.

But anyways this is a good topic. Because I think a lot of people are confused about what is black and whats not. Many people consider my mom not to be black, because she has red hair, yellow complexion, and freckles. But she knows that she is and thats all that matters.

So percentages dont count, if its in you its in you. And i still say Mariah's black.

Aah Zoe, I so agree with you, especially in that seconds to last sentence. My father is black, my mother is white, and when I tell my friends that I'm black they go "No, your not black, you're only half black" and it gets me so angry. Why do people think that I can't just be black and white, instead of just being half black and half white.
