ok, this is a small suggestion, but not that this subforum is in news and announcements, i think the name of this forum should change

from news and announcements to admin's link, or something like that.

(i've always wondered why it's called news and announcements when there's only an announcments subforum. perhaps we could have a CB newspaper, that people could contribute to, and it'd be posted as a new thread in a 'news' subforum...)

there is an editorial thread in 'writing.' however, nobody submits any, so i don't know how successful that would be.

ok, how about this:

a CB newsletter:

it'd be like a news magazine; members can submit articles dealing with current events, etc. also, links to interesting news stories could be posted.

it would require an editor of sorts, who would choose the articles and put them into a thread.

only problem would be having enough content...

Maybe we should vote on who to interview (give a reason why you chose that person). Set up a time with the one to be interviewed to go to cB chat and everyone can ask their questions. Then, one person (and maybe whoever wants to help that person) write an editorial about the intervew.

I nominate Micron for our first interview. This would be his 2nd nomination, I think.

its a little messy though, to do it in CB chat.. another chat ought to be set up, to kill off the jerks that inhabit the cb chat

or... everyone involved in teh newspaper staff coul dcompile their questions in advance, then pm them to be answered.. b/c chat rooms can get cluttered...

and then the newspaper staff can decide who to interview next...

LOL, I hadn't planned for those kinds of distractions and you so subtly reminded me. Yes, a private chat would be more appropriate. But we should take suggestions for questions though. There may be things that newspaper staff might not think about asking. Ah well, when are we going to start? I can't wait.

Shouldn't we make up the interview staff first though?

This isn't the thread for it, dear, go to "moderator performance" thread if you feel the need to make a complaint towards staff.

Did you make sure that you met all the qualifications before posting in there? You'll just get ignored if you don't have all the stuff required. Anyway, post again in the moderator performance thread.

I don't know what everyone else think about credentials, but I would like to read from an author that, at least, can achieve some semblence of control over his/her grammar and/or spelling. I don't like reading a jumble of incoherent sentences and I'm sure others wouldn't either. Creativity, confidence and some eccentricity a plus.

We need a way to "market" our interviews. We need people to actually be excited about interviews and WANT to be interviewed... so on.

How many should be on staff?

I thought we agree on Jusun, aka Micron, first, unless you guys have someone else in mind.

If we all can agree on Jusun, lets brainstorm questions (on our own, i guess)... and pick a time to interview him. The time should suit everyone.

i agree it should be micron first... especially as many people dont actually appear to know who he is, which is worrying.

perhaps we should arrange a time for any people who want to be involved to meet in a chat (or similar).... so far the biggest enthusiasts seem to be me, justin, fae and basick (who for some reason i seem to think is called steve, but im not sure why i think that).

as for staff... well, if us 4 started out, we could se exactly how much work it involves, and expand from there as necessary

Talking about the staff thingy, it shouldn't be like anyother position. I mean, i think it'll be better if the people chosen to be on the staff should remain permanent. It shouldn't be like "people staff, xanga staff...".

I don't know if that made sense. But it'll be better like that...this isn't about closing/opening thread (i think) so i don't think why the first staff chosen shouldn't be the permanent staff.

Oh, this isn't going to be anything official. I think anyone who is interested in being on staff for a certain interview should be able to join.
For example: I may want to interview Jusun, but I may not want to interview (or may not have time to) another person. In that case, someone else should be able to fill in for me.

Anyway, lets get this rolling as soon as possible. We should start setting deadlines. Newspaper people usually work with deadline pressures! ;D

Yes!

Questions shouldn't be too personal. Lets make that a rule. No questions like "what is your address" or "are you still a virgin". Maybe the latter question could be asked with some subtlety, but lets steer away from things that could potentially embarrass our interviewee.

Anyway, yea, lets think of questions now... and someone should let him know we're going to set up an appointment with him for an interview.

wow, this hasn't be replied to in a while.

i think we need a bit more of a structure for this newspaper, and it's important to get stuff down like how long you'd like it to be, what subjects it should cover in general (as in world issues, cb issues, interviews and thoughts from the public, the staff, and maybe even a humor section, provided that we can find something to smile at), where this is going to be presented, and when it should be presented.

i'm interested in being part of this. i don't know how qualified i am, since i'm not even an official member, but i'd like to help in any way i can. :)

seeing that i had more than enough time at school today, and also that i was superbly bored, i made a list/outline of what we'd have to consider and act upon.

I. staff
a. amount
1. it depends on the workload. longer paper, larger staff.
2. we can't have too many, because it would get out of hand.
b. qualifications
1. experience/talent
2. responsibility/dedication
II. presentations
a. where?
b. when?
c. sections, subsections, basically the layout of the paper.

hm i had a lot more, but they would come into play much later. i'll probably post them up once we get somewhere.

for staff, how many people do we have so far? it sounds like just basick, fae, and me.. it doesn't seem as if anyone has expressed interest in actually writing the thing.

i don't believe that it should be so much as a "you want to join? okay, you're in." that's kinda what i did.. unless you want to set up applications and such. i've thought out some things that could be on there, but i don't want to actually move and write all that down until i get an okay from you, referring to fae.

once this is a bit more organized, we should move it to a new area where there's more traffic. it would be a good idea to contact the other mods that might not know about this.. after getting organized of course.

Amount: there shouldn't be a limit until it actually becomes a problem. i feel that the more ideas/questions for the interview, the better. As of now, we do not have a problem of having "too many" and the fact that we're not sure how many people it would take to get the thing going really means we shouldn't set a limit to staff just yet.

Qualifications: i said before, and this still applies, that i "would like to read from an author that, at least, can achieve some semblence of control over his/her grammar and/or spelling". And that "creativity, confidence and some eccentricity a plus". An application would be awesome! You can post it here or PM to me.

It will be in the Writing subforum under "creatblog editorials". I know that it's not pinned right now, but if we can get it going, I'll repin it.

The layout of the interview will be simple.

Topic title might be something like "Get to know MICRON, aka Mr. Createblog".
Then we'll list the interviewers for credit and proceed to type question and answer. This format is just like the one used in magazines.
We'll do a small conclusion at the end of the Qs and As.

Before it's posted, one or two people will need to volunteer to be "editor in chief" of that interview. Meaning, the volunteer editor in chief will check for spelling/grammar mistakes before posting it. Maybe we'll take turns doing it.

sounds good! i think we're getting somewhere now.

i could be an editor-in-chief. i don't pay attention during language, but it's not as if i'm going to tell people to stop using passive voice and that they have mismatched pronouns. just that they need to change who to whom and that sort of stuff.

i pm'ed you the application! _smile.gif

Since there would be a lot of discussion between the different editors and staff at all, do you think Jusun would be willing to add forum for newspaper staff that's password protected? So that other goons don't start spamming in there?

I would LOVE to be part of the staff. LOVE it. I submitted my application, too.

I'm planning to host meetings in chat (private chat) once or twice a week, depending on timing preference. If a staff can't make the chat, we'll save the convo we have and email it over. That way, everyone's caught up.

It seems we're having a bit of trouble getting people to submit applications for positions other than editor...

James, Ruth, and Basick...
Lets plan a meeting between us first and then we'll talk about the applications.
Give me your schedules... what day and time of day is most convenient for you all? On the weekends? Weekdays? I plan to have this meeting... sometime BEFORE this Friday.

Please respond.

okay... post something, anything for me, and then post your time.

it'll be a meeting to discuss the following:

staff positions (ie how many)
applications
job description (our job descriptions)
interviewing WHO in the near future (I've got some news)... maybe make a list
thinking of other things to write about aside from interviews
due dates, or how often should our paper be published

one, I've made us a yahoogroups email account because we need an effective way to communicate with everyone without flooding this thread about our updates/news... and I'd say our AIM conversation wasn't very enjoyable with me being logged off every other 5 minutes. So, PM me an email address that you all wouldn't mind using for CB's news purposes.

two, for our next meeting:
-> MISSION STATEMENT _smile.gif
-> continue going over apps
-> we still haven't really covered who we're interviewing... in the near future (I've got some news)... maybe make a list
-> thinking of other things to write about aside from interviews. editorials, news articles
->due dates, or how often should our paper be published

Ruth, Basick (Steven?), we've love to have you both join the next meeting. the last one was kind of odd because James and I had trouble with time differences... lets see if you two can be included next time.

as you probably know, my schedule's pretty whacked due to family stuff. so is the time, since i've been switching between two time zones pretty often these days.

what day do you want this meeting on? i don't have a day to myself until at least june 5th. after that, there shouldn't be much of a problem attending meetings. is there a specific date you want the staff chosen by?

i'm not sure if basick knows this thing is going on, so i'll pm him after this reply. sorry that i'm not helping a lot right now. sad.gif

hi,
i renamed the catagory to 'site related' and renamed the topic to 'cb newspaper', as would be more appropriate.

^ Thanks.

Again, I've made a cB news group at Yahoo so we can better communicate. Join as soon as possible if you know you're staff.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CBNewsStaff/join
You need a Yahoo account (screen name), but use any email that you check at least twice a week.
Since this is private, give me time to approve your email and such. OR, just PM me your email address and I'll invite you.

I've also have news about our interviewee. Please check your PM boxes.

This is really cool! I would really love to join, is there any way that I can, or is it too late? I would be happy to just check over people's articles for spelling and grammar errors, or anything. Also, is there going to be things besides interviews, or what?

I think it is and besides everyone one would have access to the planning process and draft material if we posted all the stuff in here.
