i know that several people have mentioned this before, but i thouhgt it would be nice to put it down officially

it's always nice to wish cb members a happy birthday, but is it really sensible to have the thread hanging around for up to a week after the event?

i think there should be some sort of protocol introdued whereby all birthday threads which haven't fallen out of the first or second page by two days (or similar) after the birthday in question should be closed. anyone who wants to wish a happy birthday after that can do so through a pm.

i think you are right. so if the person's birthday is on monday, than on tuesday, we close it...that sounds cool to me! cool.gif

I think that will reduce a little bit of spam. But one day is too early. Some people don't get on teo cb for a few days, and it's hard to give belated birthday wishes. Maybe two days?

great idea, James! I've noticed birthday thread like a week+ old which is a little much and can lead to spam. It makes sense after 2 days if the person has missed their birthday, they can pm that individual if they really want to wish them a belated b-day!

I agree totally with this idea.

I agree with you. I mean, most birthday threads are dedicated for people that aren't that popular, or someone who haven't even posted in createblog yet. And most people just post messages over and over again pointlessly, such as "Happy Birthday!" And "Have fun!" So they may increase their post count. I found this really annoying, too.

Maybe we should make a birthday threads section, where it doesn't raise your post count or something.

We already have enough as it is.

Yea, the Birthday threads...irk me. I mean it's nice to remember the person's birthday, but c'mon. I remember Seon Ho's being like 7 pages long and it didn;t get closed for about a week.

its much easier just to close a thread if its hanging around... i mean, you dont have to go and hunt them down or anything, but if its still on the first page after two days... yeah, anoughs enoguh

I agree people get a chance to spam in the birthday topics.
I think the maximum days for the topics to be open is 3.
After that, it should be closed.

Also, birthday topics should only be for createblog members's birthdays.

o god dammit, i love birthday topics !

Well, if the birthday topic is a day old, it should be deleted .. i dont think its a bad idea .. if the birthday topics stays there forever and people still cheering .. i consider that a spam .. thats so old.

if no one understand me because of my lack of English. I'll make it simpler ..

If there is a birthday topic that was made the day before/ yesterday .. it should be deleted.

Instead of actually creating seperate forums for each user.. why not:

1. Enable "birthday's today" on the main index.
2. Have a mod gather usernames from the list (for the entire month, not a specific day), and create a thread on it, that will be purged from the message board after the month is over.

or just install a calender mod, so that instead of having to make threads, everyone can view when a users birthday is, and on their own, can send a pm to that individual, instead of creating a thread on it..

There are so many users on here, it wouldn't really make sense to create a thread for just one person, or for seperate days...

I didn't really mean the calender link itself, though it did seem as if though I was referring to the calender mod already available, I should've said enable the calender mod on the main index.

Here's an example:

since many of the registered members are not active then wouldnt there be say 7,000 peoples birthday on the message board? ... i doubt any one would look through that

but then that will fill up the person inbox if more than 50 people want to wish them a happy birthday wouldnt it huh.gif

We don't have any major problems with birthday threads. If you care so much about crowding, I think that once their birthday is over the thread should be deleted completely (not closed).

Yes, we do have a major problem. Someone saying "happy birthday" over and over again=spam. Yes, it's nice to wish someone a happy birthday, even someone that you don't even know, but still. it's an easy post to add to your post count. wacko.gif

Exactly what I was thinking.
No... we DEFINITELY do not need an extra forum/subforum for birthdays.

I think the current way of handling birthday topics is absolutely appropriate.

I think we're going to stick with the closing of birthday threads. Like after a certain number of days.
