Plaigerism... what exactly is it.

Is entering a poem in a non-profit poetry contest, with the writers permission; permission to use your own name as long as the writers name is on the winning speach if you win.

Is that plaigerism?

Umm I don`t really get what your saying but the def. for plagiarism is

plagiarism

n 1: a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work 2: the act of plagiarizing; taking someone's words or ideas as if they were your own

What I'm saying is, IF you entered someones poem into a poetry contest, which is non profit. You got the authors permission to use it in the contest and write your own name as long as you put they're name in the winning speech if you win. Is that plaigerism if you comply by those rules?

No, you got their permission. Plagerism is only if you steal, which means NOT ASKING

^ I guess it isn't what you would call plagerism...but why can't you just create something on your own..... _unsure.gif

its not plagerism, but it cant be allowed either, since its still not your own work. its like cheating and then writing on the top of your test who you got your answers from

I did it because, I didn't want to win, and we were FORCED to hand something it. It's not like its affecting my grade. So you think it wont matter, except I'll be disqualified. Poetry and Rap are my things, but not the stupid topic they gave us "the beauty of ordinary things."

I normally write my own stuff, I just didn't have anytihng to think on this topic, so I got permission to use a persons poem.

How is that a stupid topic?! I think it is an amazing topic. And not hard to do at all.

Just talk about water.

It provides life and its a harbringer of death. It can be both soothing and violent. mellow.gif

when u ask the author for his work.. and u give credit. that isnt plagiarism..

plagiarism is when u take someones work without permission or when ur copying notes and write an essay with the writers exact words or something along those lines

I would consider that plagiarism, even if you did get the permission, you didn't write it.

Well, it's not plagiarism because you used it with the author's permission.

its when you use someone's work, ideas, or words and not give them credit for it. it was a huge deal a few years back at my school, because copying ideas was plagiarism.

As some people have already stated in above posts, plagarism is just the act of taking one's work and claiming it as your own, simple as that. Depending on how much important the content is and how much you claim it to be yours, you can go to jail or just have to pay a simple fine.
