18 to drive because if your 15 or 16 then you'll be young and dumb and race and cause accidents and get in trouble

nah, I think you should be at least 16. Maybe even 18. And the maximum age should be instated. Something like 75. Because old people are driving with impaired hearing and sight. And if not, at least make them get checkups.

Not any age under 16.

I remember when I was that age and going to school seeing other kids driving "rice" cars to school, speeding in the parking lot like a suicidal maniac to look for a parking.

I'm almost positive that younger kids do not have the mentality it takes to handle driving. Lets say if they're driving their friends to school and the friends wants the young driver to race with another car, the driver would most likely give in to peer pressure and cause problems.

I don't think 15 is mature enough for most people. I don't know, there just seems to be a leap from 15 to 16. I'm 15 myself and I for one know that I'm not exactly too responsible yet. Maybe it's just me, but I think the current age of 16 is appropriate.

Yes, but even then.. see the problem is.. age does not guarantee maturity.. I would agree with you.. around 16-18, because at that age, many teenagers are able to understand the laws and be able to drive.. however, I also advocate some kind of a program.. that teaches them to value life, value safety and drive carefully.. our school has lost 1 senior every year for the past few years due to driving accidents.. my friend nearly ran me over.. 16-18 is old enough to know basic driving principles.. but at that age.. people are reckless.. they think they're invulnerable.. then something happens that shakes them up.. makes them realize otherwise.. we need to induce that something without them actually getting harmed.. like we had this "Every 15 Minutes" program thing at school.. that realli helped.. we need things like that.. the dilemma also lies in.. not setting the age too late in life.. because people need cars as a means of transportation.. as they go onto college.. get jobs.. and they need the experience driving..

I think 15. But here in NC it's atleast one year after you had your permit! They start when your 14 1/2 when you can learn to get your permit and I got mine when I was 15 1/2. Ugh!!!! I have to wait 6 more months until I can try to get my license.

Mmm... well they need to be able to practice a lot.. good driving isnt just about passing the tests and knowing the rules.. you need to have the experience..

thats aprt of it

but if you make the driving test hard, the people who really suck and shouldnt drive anyway won't pass

plus you make it like a state EMT certification class..you get 2 chances, then you have to document remedial training to even TRY to retake it

Well i am from HK(Hong Kong). The legal age is 18. so it hell sucks. But in Hk there are a ton of Mod cars. Tons of Skyline, Evo, Civics and Accord.

In some upper districts, you can find Porche, Lambo, or Ferrari. Bentley is here too. Not maybach. SAD! fallen.gif The Merc are all good and At least 500,000 In HK. A total rich country. YEA..........SARS! Ford and all the Amercian cars..........all gone here. They suck.

Sad that the legal age to drive is 18. I am from boston moved to HK and now i have to wait. In Cali it's 16 i beleive. Luck American. I am Chinese

Peace!

it's fine the way it is.

15 permit, 16 driving.

lovely, if you ask me.

why? becuase i can drive now, and don't have to bum rides off of people.

of course, i need a car to be able to do that, but still...

there are massive advantages to being able to drive.

here, you can get your learners' by taking a written test when you are 16. you must have that for a year, or 9 months if you take driving school before you take your road test then you get your 'N' license which is when you can drive by yourself, but with lots of restrictions. 2 years later, you can take another test to get your full license.

hmm ours is simple. when youre 15 you can get permit if you took drivers ed. then after having it a year you can get your license. so when youre 16. but its only a 5-9, then after 6 months its full. so by the time you're 16 1/2 you could have a full license, which by then i will have happy.gif

here in tennessee...15 for permit..must have it at least 6 months...then at 16 you get intermediate restricted which has all these rules that no on ever follows..then at 17 (or a year after the restricted) you can get the intermediate unrestricted...then at 18 (or 1 year) you get the regular license.

most people just get the 1st license and keep it until it expires instead of going every year to pay for the next level

15 for a permit and 16 for a license. But, you have to have your permit for atleast 3 months and 25 hours of practice logged onto a sheet. This is in illinois btw.
