ok. maybe this is just stupid, but i wanted to clarify what ppl mean when they say their gf/bf is "spanish". is this a white person from spain? or hispanic? just wanted to clarify. i hear a lot of girls saying "spanish boys are hott!!" and im not sure whether they mean guys from spain or latinos. alrighty. im done.

i live in nyc too but yeah, it's usually people who are from latin descent...besides, aren't people from spain called spaniards?

Spanish = Spain

If his not from spain or from spanish decent he isn't spanish.
Hispanic is like all latinos meaning puerto ricans, mexican, etc.
Like how Asians are japanese, viets, chinese etc.

I'm sure they mean hispanic..

i agree. but i'd assume that they mean hispanics.

if you're spanish, it does mean that you come from spanish descent.

Well my boyfriend is Spanish his family is Spanish, hes a catalan, i dont really know how to put it but hes proper spanish, He comes from Spanish descent.

They're probably mean hispanic. My friends use to always say I was part Spanish, when I'm not because they meant hispanic.

Exactly what Lilly said. Spanish=Spain Mexican=Mexico Puerto Rican= Puerto Rico See the pattern?
hispanic is just a vague description of a larger ethnic group or nationality or whatever I suppose.

they could probably mean both. most people always say that they can speak mexican but they really mean spanish. so they could just be meaning all latinos in general.

That's odd and it annoys me. Spaniards are usually the people from Spain and to call someone Spanish is to call them a language. Most people when saying that usually mean latino.

Some Hispanic people look light-skinned enough to be white..hmm. Like my Spanish teacher is from Argentina, and if you didn't hear her say anything, you might have thought she was white. I don't know.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Most people from Argentina and Uruguay are fair-skinned.

Anyways, when people say that, I think they mean Hispanics/Latinos.

hmm thats really somewhat odd next time someone says it i would most likely ask which one they mean because thats kind of odd .. when people say spanish people i usually think they mean latino? i never really thought of them meaning people from spain

In the NYC area we say "spanish" which means hispanics, puetor ricans, dominicans, panamanias, ect.

it all depends on where they are from. Spanish refers to the people that come from Spain but its true definition has been lost so we technically everyone spanish. if they aren`t from spain, then they are Hispanics or Latin Americans. all in all it depends on where they orginate
