Yes, I had to announce this to everyone. Today is the National Day Of Silence. Basically, people around the United States keep silent today to express how many gays/lesbians/bis/transexuals all over the United States feel from hiding their sexuality.

I hope each of you are kind and openminded enough to participate in this.

Random Fact: About 4 out of 5 gays/lesbians/bis get harassed everyday.

Thank you.

I remember a topic about this long ago. I said I wanted to do it but I didn't want to make teachers at school mad at me. Now my points are almost the complete opposite. If I had knew earlier, I would've done it today. bleh. I guess i'll have to do it next year.

Aw. I wished I knew earlier. There are so many narrow-minded people in my school. I "dislike" how they treat some of the people in my school. This would have been a good thing to participate in

Sigh. People just don't get it. It's doesn't matter what your sexuality is. It's the inside that counts.

I could never spend a whole day silent. I am the most talkative person I know. I think I would die. And today I have to rehears my songs so I have to make noise...that sucks. And thats sad that that many people are harrassed..I mean, I harrass my gay friends, but its all outta fun , they harrass me about being straight. now that I think about it, I know 6 different homsexual people, and they never seem to have any trouble with it...but everyone I know if really openminded. so yeah. I love gay people. Expecially really flamboyant guys...they are such fun to shop with!!

I did it. I didn't talk the entire school day. My parents made me talk after that. Nrgh. Well, 7 hours is pretty good.

I don't emphasize on equality for gays and lesbians. Today I stuck a sign on my shirt saying "Freedom for all", to show just what I was silent for.

Also, for those who don't know what the point of the silence is: It represents all the voices that no one listens to (ex: gays and lesbians), and how different the world would be if they were all gone.

ok i no im gonna come off as such a cold hearted a-hole, BUT i think the whole day of silence is pretty pointless....

first off, people rnt gonna change, they can, but not in ur life time or in ur kids life time...its just way too much work for almost no results, why bother....all u can do is teach ur kids not to discriminate and hopefully all that prejudice and biggotry will stop.....although it probably never will. the worlds a f-ed up place, some people are real jerks about this kinda stuff, its sad. basically all it is is peoples ignorance to stuff around them.

i no its great and all to do sumthing u beleive in, but i really dont think staying silent helps......in my opinion all u can do is educate people about what there doing, protests r not gonna change things.

^ I agree with most of the things you said until the last statement.

Okay, protests HAVE and will change things. How do you think blacks got their rights? Through protests. How do you think women got equal treatment as men? Through protests. I would use so many more examples but I'm really tired.

i was going to make a topic on this actually...

we did this at my school today. i helped organise it with a bunch of my mates, and we ended up getting 75 to 80 people involved. i made ribbons for everyone to wear, and first i ran out of ribbon. then i made paper ones. then i ran out of those. so we resorted to stickers.

i ended up breaking my silence about five minutes before the last bell, just because i was so frustrated with some kids who were harassing mates of mine, and you can't yell at someone silently... well, not well at any rate.

Two years ago, a couple of people got sent to the principle's office for handing out papers for people to show their teachers to explain why they refused to talk. This year, I know only a single person who participated.
