hmm... thats a good question..... lemme think about it and ill edit

edit ok the dictionary says

1) Belonging to the highest rank or class.
2) Serving as the established model or standard: a classic example of colonial architecture.
3) Having lasting significance or worth; enduring.

and i think thats true

cause like albums like A Tribe Called Quest's Low End Theory might not be the most advanced album but it served as the bar for future rappers to try and get to... and I still listen to Nas's Illmatic to this day so it lasted for some time... and just great quality albums like Blackalicious's NIA

wow, can't believe you named Infinite a classic... it's a lyrical classic but it's not a CLASSIC in general because beats and flow was off... lyrically, that's one of the greatest albums ever though

some of mine:
John Legend - Get Lifted
Eminem - Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP
Common - Ressurection and Like Water for Chocolate
The Roots - Phrenology
Kanye West - College Dropout (every track is fire)
Nas - Illmatic (even though I don't consider It Was Written a classic but think it's better)
Biggie - Life After Death (though he's the most overrated MC of all-time)
Talib Kweli - Reflection Eternal, Blackstar (with Mos Def), and Beautiful Struggle
Mos Def - Black on Both Sides and Blackstar (with Talib Kweli)
Pharoahe Monch - Internal Affairs
Mariah Carey - Number 1's (lmfao - that's cheatin' but it is)
Janet Jackson - I forget the name of the album but her first one I believe... SICK ALBUM
Michael Jackson - Thriller
TLC - Crazy Sexy Cool
Boys II Men - a few of their albums
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, and Black Album
Dr. Dre - The Chronic and Chronic 2001
Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle

that's all for now............

To me these are Classics...

Beatles -- Abbey Road/Rubber Soul/ Revolver..ah they were all good!
Elton John -- Goodbye YellowBrick Road
Michael Jackson -- Thriller
Ray Charles -- The Birth Of Soul
Beach Boys -- Pet sounds...(wouldn't it be nice is the best song!)
Frank Sinatra -- Classic Sinatra...Greatest Love Songs cd is good too
Madonna -- True Blue Album
Green Day -- Dookie (first album)
Marvin Gaye--lets get it on
Whitney Houston--Bodyguard..or whitney houston
Celine Dion--All The Way, a decade of song
Mariah Carey--#1's, lol but serious, what else would you get?
Alicia Keys--Songs in A minor, and Diary are both good
Pink Flloyd--the wall
Led Zeppelin -- Led Zeppelin

of course there is Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, Jim Croce, Aerosmith, James Brown...all of them..dunno the names of all their albums tho...I would consider music from broadway to be classic too. like Grease, Sound of Music, Aida, Chicago, Phantom of The Opera .West Side Story,Funny Girl, The King and I, Fiddler on the Roof..all the music in those were extrordinary..So i would consider that music Classic. lol wow this is long happy.gif I grew up listening to most of that stuff up there. Especially the beatles, frank sinatra, and whitney. happy.gif

John Lennon - 'Plastic Ono Band'

But the beat makes all the difference. While not messing anything up contentwise, the beat determines how the words are to flow, or how they should flow. You know when someone is just off rythmically, when they say a word at the wrong time, or say it in a wrong way? That's just from lack of listening to the beat.

That and a beat makes or breaks a song. Look at Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life." Lyrically not all that but the Annie sample, that bass line made that damn song.

no, you misunderstood what I said... trust me hun', I'ma MC and one of the elite at that (Patrick/Basick will second that) so you don't have to tell me anything about rhyming or bein' in a studio or the process of making a song...... I said I doubt the Grey Albums beat could fit better than the one's Kanye, Em, other's laced... even Allure... I can't see the beats working better with Hov than the originals cuz the originals were so incredible.........

Would any of you consider a recently released album, of any genre, to be a classic?
