I don't really know, but I have a friend and she cuts. She told me that when she does it, it makes her feel happy, but afterwards the cuts get infected if she doesn't put something on them, like alcohol, or peroxide. Most people who cut don't wear short sleeves or any thing, so no one will see their cuts and ask them about it.

Some people prefer physical pain rather than emotional pain so they try to cover it up with physical.

Cutting, I`ve heard, only saying secondhand, makes you feel better, because it makes it like you can control your pain.

some people need to cut to help them deal with their problems in a negative way by cutting. just a way for them to deal with emotions and by making little cuts they can easily cut themselves.

once my boyfriend and i were fighting and i was really upset, my tooth was loose and hurt like hell whenever i touched it. so i was like hmm let me try this...it didn't do sh*t for me, i was still hurt inside and my tooth was killing me too

it didn't help me deal with emotion, everything just hurt twice as much stubborn.gif

thinking about it psychologically, people who do it are in pain/depressed and can't get control of that pain/depression. So, they cut themselves because they CAN control that pain. So, one motivator is control (im not saying that this is the only motivator). x_X I love Psychology.

why dont you try and see...? no just kidding. cutting makes you feel better about things for like what, 1 second? its reverse physcology. you wanna hurt everyone who hurt you, but you cant... you just do it on yourself. i dunno.

i asked my friend this same thing a long time ago.
she said it relieved the pain that she's been holding inside for a long time.
and when i asked her if if it made her feel better, she said it did. and that it was addictive. she cut herself three times already, all deep.
then i asked her if she cared enough for herself and others around her to not cut.
after that conversation, she stopped.

well i used to cut. i stopped. but like when you cut yourself, it's really hard to describe why you do it. you just do. maybe...um...well because you have a f**ked up life, and that is the only way you can release the pain. but n0w ... i really don't see the point in it anymore.

releasing blood = releasing endorphines. so it doesnt really help by just influencing pain on yourself, you gotta let the red water flow.

I haven't cut... too much of a wimp I guess. But I've had a point in my life where I've thought about it and actually tried. (Instead I snapped a rubber band on my wrist... I have extremely low pain tolerance!!) But I guess it just takes your mind of your emotional pain while you're focussing on the physical pain. And a lot of girls that I know who do it totally do it for attention!!! wink.gif

Is it necessary to have so many threads related to cutting?

I'll explain it the best that I can from my experiences...

Once you've broken down to the point of cutting, it doesn't hurt you while you're doing it. It gives you a rush. It makes you feel alive for a few minutes. It helps you feel better after you think you've hit rock bottom.

After doing it for a while, it becomes almost an addiction. It becomes a habit. It becomes part of your daily rituals.

It's hard to quit.

Most people cut because the physical pain feels better than the emotional pain they're currently going through. Some people cut for the hell or it and some people cut for attention. The people I'm talking about in my post are people that have broken down to the point of it. I'm not talking about attention whores or people that like blood.

Each situation is slightly different from another.
People have their own personal reasons for doing so.
Examples: family issues, friend issues, dating issues, grades, death, sexual relationships gone wrong, etc., etc.

It's really hard to explain.
I don't even know why I chose to start.
There was a lot of shit building up in my life and I seemed to think it would be a way out. It's usually a spur of the moment type of choice.

it is like, addicting, after a while. sometimes. things jut get so hard. and you dont want to cry. and cutting is a way out.
it doesnt mean youre a bad person if you do it, but, maybe youre having troubles. and it almost gives you a rush.it makes me sad when people do it because ive been thru it, and its hard.
it makes you feel better about yourself

Have you ever complained that something hurt and someone said "Want me to punch you to divert the pain?" Well, that's what it does...the physical pain diverts whatever emotional pain one might feel.

I did it once...it helped in two ways...diverted the pain and helped me make the decision to not do it again.

I've heard it's the adrenaline rush. ... And, when you're mad, do you like to clench your teeth? Try doing that when you're happy. Hurts more, doesn't it? There is something about the way pain lets out anger in certain ways that satisfies certain people, however wrong it is.

I've known people who have cut themselves who can't stand to look at the scars because they regret what they did. The real meaning of "scarred for life."

Yeah, I used to. Basically, what despise said is true for me. I was extremely depressed from so many things - I don't even want to get into the causes of my depression. Anyways, I cut for a while - just small cuts with scissors on my arms, razor cuts on my thighs, and I'd do it anywhere I could without people getting suspicious. The one night, I was just crying so hard and started cutting up the tops of my fingers. I had 32 small cuts - not too bad or anything but kind of noticable. That morning I decided to OD on some painkiller but chickened out and only took like 4, so I judt ended up being really delirious when I got to school. I felt like such an idiot. All my friends already knew I cut, and I was like showing off my fingers like an attention whore and going, "Haha, I'm such an idiot." They all gave me crazy looks. When I came to my senses, I wanted to run away. Luckily, my friends understood, but yeah...sorry about going off on that little tangent.

Mostly I did it because I felt like I needed to punish myself. I was so critical of myself in my depression. I thought I was such a horrible person, and I felt like I had to punish myself for all the bad things I had done. I guess in a way, I always wanted one of my teachers to notice and ask me if I was okay because I was too scared to ask for help myself, and I just wanted some sort of way out. I don't know how they would have noticed, though, when I always hid my cuts, but that's the way my mind worked. I didn't really know what the heck I was doing.

The thought of cutting myself makes me feel all jittery, personally, but the cutting itself really shouldn't be the primary issue. The causes of why someone feels the need to hurt themselves is the real problem. I know that was stating the obvious, but.. its my opinion so deal.

geez...people are really into this subject huh? why do you care if you don't do it? *GRR. okay. so i fell off the "no cutting boat" again >.<

why people do it..hmm...i don't even know why i started, i just saw a knife when i was upset and slid it across my wrist. it felt good. it made me feel alive. it made me happy. like all my troubles were gone. it made me stop crying. i don't know. it's hard to explain. like people have said. everyone has their own reasons. it's nothing to be proud of or brag about..there's this girl at my school that does it for attention and it pisses me off...i just wanna kill her! she started cutting when her boyfriend dumped her and she told him if he didn't go back out with her she wouldn't stop. how gay >.< at least have a d*** good reason to. *GRR! but seriously. if you haven't started. DON'T! it's like a drug >.<

dont make people who cut feel isolated, my friend did it and i helped her to stop the best thing to do is talk about it with them not disregard it!
