It's been 4 months since my ex bf broke it off with me...and we haven't had any contact with each other since then.
But...yesterday being my birthday, he messaged me and said happy birthday to me...does this mean anything? Added to the fact that I didn't expect him to remember my birthday, least of all say Happy Birthday to me. Does it mean that he still wants to be friends with me...or does it just mean that he was being nice? (Note: when he broke up with me, he did say that maybe we can be friends one day...) Or am I thinking too much on this? Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt get to excited. Just be happy he hasnt forgot about you. I think u guys can be friends again but theres a slim chance there will be anything more then that. dont go overboard or you will get hurt again..

If it's been four months since you two broke up..and haven't kept in contact..and when you two did break up, he hoped you two could be friends..then I think...that he does want to be friends with you...but I doubt it's anything more than that. Why don't you say "Thanks for remembering," if you haven't said anything to him...

And I know that being friends is the furthest we can go; he said so himself when he broke up with me. |

I think he only thinks of you as a friend now. I still say happy birthday to my ex.. though she always sounds surprised when I do so.

i think you are reading too far into this.
he obviously cares about you as a friend or else he wouldnt say hapy birthday but thats probably it. just be happy and move on |

I think it was nice of him to wish you on your birthday...and i think he is hinting that he wants to be friends...though i think it is nothing more than that-just friends. I think that you should be friendly to him too, but take things slow...?

he was probably being nice bc he remembered it was ur birthday.. meaning he didn't ferget about you.. which is a good thing and maybe he wants to be friends with you. that's also a good thing but don't overreact on this & think he wants to get back with you or anything..

i think he was just being nice ... or wants to be friends again. dont get your hopes up though ... there might be a slim chance he might want a second chance. maybe he couldn't stand being with out you or whatever. hopefully everything works out!

Maybe the way I phrased it wasn't the best way to phrase it, but what was I wondering is does he want to be friends with me? Because I know that there is no way that we can get back together; we were just too different for each other. So what I'm really wondering is does he see me as a friend or what?
