then its such horse crap and just a scam to get ur cash while they print ur name in a book for nothing.

yeah, i got something like that too.
The National Honors Society Association? i don't think it's real though.
however, when I visited their site, it looked real enough. I'm still suspicious though, cuz in the letter, it was all: get your name printed in the NHS book for only $20 in gold letters!

OMG! SO TRUE! My sister got a letter similar to that. A letter saying that she submitted some essay and got nominated or some crap like that. And then that she should pay $69.99 for a "gold-framed deluxe album." "Act now and you can get it engraved for $79.99!!!" I think it might've been the NSHSS! pinch.gif

And almost everyone at my school taking any advanced and/or honors class, regardless of their academics, received a letter from "Who's Who" blah blah blah! Seriously, this girl who was in my advanced World History class (last school year, sophmore year) received the letter, and so did the rest of my class. Half of the class are lazy and usually don't get high marks and yea.. whistling.gif And the letter would say "You've been nominated by your teacher blah blah blah and you're at the top 5% of your class!!!"

Some crap like that. sweating.gif

They're all scams, imo. ANYTHING like that which asks you to pay a feel for something (especially that high) is a scam.

Poetry.com is a scam. Why, they make billions of dollars annually from sales to gullible people. mad.gif

I'm sure it's a variation of what my high school has: National Honor Society. I've been in it for 4 years, basically because I've maintained above a 3.8 GPA and being involved in various activities.

So -- congratulations. Most NHS members have a bright future happy.gif, I can vouch, I'm headed to Cornell.

To clear things up:

NYLC is legit. This is the National Youth Leadership Conference. It's an actual trip to Washington, D.C. and the area to check out how the government works.

NHS is legit. This is the National Honor Society. It is accepted by colleges on your transcript and such and it looks pretty good at graduation too [ I think you get some extra cord on your gown or somethign ].

The one you refer to, NSHSS is semi-legit. That's the National Society of High School Scholars. It's legit in the sense that "hey, it's an actual organization" but you should know that it's pretty much a scam. It won't help you much in the terms of transcripts / college applications, but you can go ahead and join it if you want to.
While NHS and NYLC are selective in the students they ask to join, I'm pretty sure that NSHSS just sends out hundreds of thousands of invitations to almost all the high school students in the country.

ex.1: I know somebody who's 50-year-old mother received an invitation.
ex.2: There are eight graders receiving these, for goodness' sake!! They're not even in high school yet!

If you can afford it and don't give a darn about throwing money around, you can go and join it. But otherwise, just list on your college app. that you were "invited to join so-and-so" - but then again, some colleges actually tell you not to list organizations like NSHSS on your applications.

I got the postcard / letter too. It wasn't actually founded by Claes Nobel - it was founded by James Lewis or something, and I guess Claes is exploiting his Nobel family name to make it seem as if "ohmy! you're getting a mini-Nobel prize!! hooray!"

Dude, no one gets partial HOPE. It's all-or-nothing, and 100% based on grades.

I can't tell whether you're trying to vouch for its legitimacy or not. Regardless, though, it sounds pretty pointless.

I went to school in metro Atlanta and never heard anything about this.
