dance, ..any dancers in here? Options

any dancers on cb? of any kind. i do ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, polynesian, and used to do tap. since i was 3!..and if you think dance isnt a sport (cuz i've met a few who think that) it is indeed a sport! there was this study and dance is the 2nd most strenuous sport next to swimming

I was on the dance team on at my highschool. I loved it! The only thing that I didn't like was trying to dance in a 90 degree gym, then riding my bike 3 miles home. I was really dedicated! I can't believe I actually did that everyday!

Dancing is my passion. I dance 4 times a week, and i do mainly hip hop and modern. Though i *heart* freestyle and tried breaking... but i literally did break. Shoulder dislocation. Ouch. I would love to start ballet though...

Just a question for those dancers out there, I'm 15 turning 16 in December, would it be too late for me to start ballet? My mom started at...14 I think...but...I don't know. What do you think?

anyways the whole 'dance is a sport' thing i disagree with. i believe dance is an art not a sport. (we have a whole "center for the arts" at my school and dance is one of the focuses) so basically...even though i'm a dancer....i'd still say dance is not a sport. :)

I've been dancing since 3, too. I have 2 jobs, and one is dancing at a club...so much fun! I do hip hop mostly, but I like Jazz, and ballet too. It's my passion other than gymnastics. I was dancing at a random club a few months ago and the lasy told me she wanted me to dance for the Pistons...lol. great stuff.

polynesian dancing is basically the hula. it's hawaiian dancing.

ah yes, but theres a variety outside of hawaiian hehe, such as tahitian, maori, traditional hawaiian, more modern hawaiian, etc. there's also samoan and whatnot. i used to do it all but...i quit. stupidly.

I dont think it's too late... I'm 14 and I started hip hop last year. But then again, I was able to start off in an intermediate/advanced class because ive been dancing since i was 5. I still think you could join a beginner class, though. If you have friends at home who dance they could probably tell you a good place to go.

I do hip hop, jazz, and ballet, and I'm trying to add pointe this year. I think pointe shoes are so graceful and glamorous. They're painful though... both my grandmothers took pointe and they have bunyans now. I wish I could dance more often cuz I never get any exercise, but I don't have the time and each class is only an hour at my studio so it would be really expensive to add extra classes. This year I'm moving up to a more advanced class. YAY! I'm really excited! My studio was thinking of adding some kind of latin dance class this year. I don't know if they did, but it sounds really interesting. I tried salsa once in this mini course thing and it was so much fun. ^_______^

I've tried really hard to be able to do a double pirouette, but it's still pretty messy. I always hop or something. >__________< they are so HARD! Does anyone have any good tips?

I don't dance at all >< When I was in grade 5, I took ribbon dancing for a year. There was this huge performance in the end and we were mentioned on this chinese newspaper. Lol. But yea, I'm not much of a dancer. I'm embarrassed because I don't think I can dance. That's why I don't dance. But when I was a kid, looking at the videos and all, I would dance around the room and all while my sibling does the singing. Lol.

After watching So You Think You Can Dance and all, I want to learn how to dance now. Like I would only dance if I was taught how to do it. But just going out there and dancing at dances and all, I don't. I'm way too shy and stuff. My mom thinks it's weird since she used to go to clubs and all, all the time when she was younger. She loved to dance. But my siblings and I don't dance. Lol.

The only time I did dance was like in grade 7 & 8. But it was a requirement for gym and both years, we had to form a group and make up our own dance routines. We did hip hop for both years. Meh. I don't know. If I was to dance, I want to do hip hop, but not like the ones singers like Mandy Moore or whoever does. It's more like how Jamile from So You Think You Can Dance type of hip hop.

I do Irish Stepdancing!!!!!!! And I used to dance tap, jazz, ballet, gymnastics, all of that when i was little. But I've only been irish dancing for a year and a half and i'm almost to open!!!! which is like where girls that have been dancing for like 7 years are!!!! so people say I'm really good. Ever since I was younger, I danced ballet. I eventually got onto pointe when I was around 11. (Haha, I've even taken and passed some RAD exams.) From then on, I started going into jazz, modern, and hip hop. (I've also learned how to do tinikling too.)
I'm not going to classes right now, since neither me or my family has the money or time for it right now. So I'm just doing my own thing now too.

I literally live and breathe for dancing. I've been taking ballet, jazz and tap for 12 years, and lyrical, pointe and hip hop for 8 and Latin, tango and meringue for 4. I teach everything but pointe (you have to have a special certification in new york to teach it) and I compete in everything.

I don't believe that ballet and lyrical are considered sports, although the athletic ability required for them would overqualify. They are more of and art. Hip hop and the latin dances are sports though.
