How many of you have seen this film? I just viewed it last night and I literally sat there in shock for over 30 minutes. It's so disturbing and heart-wrenching that you just can't stop thinking about it. I even shed tears.

The movie takes you on a journey through the lives of 4 people who each have deadly addictions, namely drugs. Each of them do have dreams, goals, and this is made clear throughout the movie. You actually feel for the characters and only hope that they can overcome their addictions. But as you can determine from its title, there is no happy ending here.

It's message is very relevant and powerful, especially to today's youth, that I highly suggest you all pick it up if you haven't seen it already.

If you have, what did you think and what was its impact on you? I thought the acting, direction, cinematography, script, and all was very well done and effective for the message it was trying to deliver. Even though it is grim and somewhat depressing conclusion, I think it's the most beautiful and most powerful film I have ever seen. Unfortunately for its NC-17 rating, it's restricted from the age group who sincerely need to see it most.

Firstly, *high five*

You've said everything that I could have hoped to say ... Requiem for a Dream is just one of those films that every teenager should be required to watch. And I'm glad that you made a topic about this because I believe that this film should be put out there.

Granted, Requiem for a Dream isn't a very hard film to find ... so if you can find it, it definitely proves to be a very fulfilling watch. However, I do have to say that it is not for the faint of heart or the squeemish. As xquizit has stated, the subject matter is heavy. I would describe it as the equivalent of taking several punches to the stomach. Nevertheless, the film is so captivating that you won't be able to take your eyes off of the screen.

I can't say that I could relate to the film on a personal level as I haven't had such an experience with drugs .... but the film is crafted in a way that makes you feel for the characters. The film is inspiring, endearing, powerful, heavy, and beautiful in its own odd ways. The haunting score will stick with you weeks after watching it.

Also, if you liked this film ... I would also recommend the film Pi. It's by the same director and also has had the same impact on me. I liked Requiem for a Dream much better, but Pi is also a very good film.

i heard about this film on some indie movie website, but i haven't been interested in seeing it until now. i'm going to look for it at blockbuster, but i doubt my parents will let me watch nc-17. this movie for some reason reminds me of elephant, which also was one of the most emotional movie watching experiences i've had (it deals with corrupt teenagers).

edit: i just looked at blockbuster.com and they have the unrated director's cut at the store near my house. should i get this one or the other version (which is only R rated)?

Yeah, that should be fine. It'll probably only edit out the nude scenes.

Thats odd, cause I bought it from suncoast awhile back and it wasnt rated
and its got all the nude parts and everything in it.
I think you should look at suncoast for it.
cause I think it has a greater impact if the scenes arent cut out....

anyways, I loved the movie
I was like ohmy.gif forever
just sitting there watching the screen
its an amazing movie.

I wanna see Pi really bad.

I totally agree.
everything about the movie is breathtaking.

and I'd hope that it would have an affect on people to the point where they would stop doing drugs, so I made my friend Josh watch it
but it didnt affect him. so that was a shock to me.
and it made me upset, cause he's still a stoner. mellow.gif

I wanted to see it and I was going to borrow it from my brother but he told me it was a little graphic for me to watch. It seems kind of intense.

How old are you?
it is intense but I think you should still watch it, unless you're really young

god I loved this movie. I must say I cried too. I don;t want to be old first of all. And second, I've lost a few best friends due to drugs. It's pathetic truly pathetic that people just throw themselves away. And worst part about the movie is that there REALLY ARE people like that. great movie though i must say

I have to say this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. The acting is brilliant, and so is just about everything in this movie. Definitely on my top 10 list.
