Prep..is ermm..it' hard to explain. Like..ties and such...er..things like that. Also, it depends how people call you a prep.. like they could be playing around, or meaning it as an insult..it depends on the person i guess

A prep is usually someone who's always happy and has a lot of friends, it's usually an insult, because most people don't like what is classified as a "prep".

being called a prep is an okay thing...it just means you like to dress from like hollister or american eagle and you act like a prep...it's not a bad thing...it's just that some people might not wanna hand out with you...my group of friends are known as the "punk rock skaters" [[which is such bullshit, we hate being labels mad.gif ]] and some of my friends are preppy, and they won't wanna hang out with them...but what thing i hate is when the retarted poser preppy people try to hang out with us and they think that they're the shit and that they know everything...because when they do that, it just makes them look stupid and we always make fun of them...so, if your preppy, watch what you do

idk --- i guess there's no actual "definition" of a prep. when i think of preps, i think of someone that is over-the-top conceited, maybe wealthy [and rubs it in], acts a certain way because it's "trendy", and doesn't accept people [ex: nerds, geeks, goths, punks] because they are different.

There is no definition of a prep. You people are saying just because someone likes a shirt from Abercrombie and cares about the way they look then they are considered a prep? They might be looked upon as shallow people, but the really shallow people are the people labeling them if you think about it.

"I hate people who like a certain type of clothing that I dont like and the way they care about how they look."

I wouldn't say that's not shallow. What they want to wear is their opinion, just like what you wear is your opinion.

Leave them alone.

if anyone asked what prep was the short for, whoever was asked would be bewildered. .: preparatory :.

preparatory: Relating to or engaged in [study or training] that serves as [prep]aration for [advanced education].

so next time a "prep" calls someone a "nerd"... say this:

this motha f*cka is lost!

I dont know what these ppl are talkin about. You really cant classify anybody as a prep. ITs a person who has a lot of friends and you dont have to dress nice to be a prep i dress from hosslister and american eagle and im about as redneck you can get. Its mainly ppl who think there better than everyone else and stick there nose up to "small" ppl. You dont have to dress ncie or be popular at that to be a prep and just cause your popluar your a prep. You just have a lot of friends. Heck im popular.

Hmmmm well, in my opinion prep is a very bad thing to be called. Where i come from its like the worst insult you can say to anyone. Well a prep is like someone who like is rich, popular, has tons of friends, looks down on people who have less than them, take everything for granted. Thanks to the media though, football players and cheerleaders are usually classified as preps if they ever look down on someone. Well i doubt thats the exact definition but thats what i have been told.

You people are talking about a select group of bitchy people that are uncultured and have their parents pay for everything and will probably never have to work a day in their lives. They just don't understand why most of America has to actually work for a living. But most of you are stereotyping most of the nation. They include people that pride themselves in dressing clean cut and being fashionable. And that UrbanDictionary.com definition is way off target. Preps are people that may shop at those stores, but most don't care how much their clothes cost. They care about looking good, even if that implies either spending $175 or $5 on a bag from Coach or Wal-Mart (just so you know, I like Wal-Mart!)

there are two definitions of "prep:" the original definition and the teeny-bopper, commercialism-dominated, new-fangled definition. i cite urbandictionary:

preppy

definition one: One who is stylish and spends a lot of money on their clothing. Typically dressed in Ralph Lauren Polo, Lacoste, and Lilly Pulitzer. A true prep goes to a prep school, be it a day school or a boarding school. Most of these schools are located on the East Coast. They are not religiously affiliated. There is no such thing as a true public school prep. Preppies are subtly flashy, and tend to purchase things for comfort and style. Silver jewelry is particularly common, as are pearls. Flip-flops and ribbon belts are must-have accessories, as well as real (or sometimes fake) pearl earrings. Preppies take good care of their nails, but do not get acrylic fakes. Many get their eyebrows waxed. Preppies strive always to appear to spend less time than they do on their appearance, and do not brag or draw attention to their achievements openly. Preppy clothes never truly go out of style, but are frequently replaced. Preppies love their khakis, especially males. They will pay three times as much for a polo player, alligator, or palm tree on their shirts. Common vacations include, but are not limited too: Massachusetts coast, skiing out west (it is more expensive), and Caribbean island vacations during the winter (also very expensive). Most preps have, in their life, skied, and played lacrosse, tennis, and golf. Preppiness is found in its truest form after several generations of wealth in the family. First-generation preps tend to be flashy. True Preparatory (Prep) schools have near 100 years of “experience in educating young men/women” and nearly all of them send 100% of their graduates on to college. Preps tend to proceed to Ivy League, or other “big-name” colleges. Their level of intelligence varies greatly. They may have, but do not need, trust funds.

definition two: well, you know. the wannabe preps. they wear american eagle and abercrombie. they are sometimes referred to as "ditsy" or "slutty," but this description does not always apply. this public school definition of "prep" is often defined by one's clothes/makeup/general outward appearance, while the original definition refers to a general lifestyle.

Well...my school is private, over 100 years old, sends everyone to college and all that. Its on the west cost tho. And I sorta have a trust fund (well...not really...its more like that my grandma left me $ that I dont get til Im 21). And I wear pink and act happy. Oh, well, I must be a prep. But Im nice...so it must be a good thing.

2 types of 'preps' :

1) UBER popular rich people
2) Very straight-laced. Think of "princeton university". Pleated skirts, polos, ties for guys, sweaters.

I'm always labelled a prep. I'm pretty sure it's because us white kids are the minority in my school, and I have blonde hair and... lots of clothes. I don't know, it doesn't really bother me that much. I am who I am, like it or lump it. I don't care. It's all good.

But wow. Reading all of your definitions... I seem to fit some of them. Ah, screw it. I don't care.
