freedom of speech. most definitely. because without them, we woulnd't have the right to speak our mind. basically, the world would be run by the government entirely and nobody could express their opinions.

QUOTE(azn_r4pf4n @ Feb 16 2005, 10:06 PM) QUOTE ......would you please stop making debates that are more like essay prompts? HAHAHAHA! I think he's asking us to do his homework for him. My sister has to do the same exact thing for school. I told her I think it goes between the first and the second. Without the freedom of speech, you can't protest, and without the freedom to bear arms, you can't fight the government if they become oppressive. but she didn't listen and she chose the one that made everyone equal. |

The 10th Amendment, because all of our rights ultimately derive from it. Any other amendment only protects one specific right. The 10th amendment protects all of our rights.
If only the government didn't ignore it so much... |

for the sake of debate, i disagree with everyone who did not select either the first or second. without the first or second amendment, you can't have any of the other amendments.

As for why, they speak for themselves. |

I disagree. The ninth and tenth amendments cover all the rest. Especially the tenth amendment. A strict interpretation of the tenth amendment could, by itself, preserve the rule of law, since the government would only be allowed to do things that are written in the Constitution, and extralegal spending operations and violations of civil liberties would be not allowed. |

The 4th I guess because without it, the government could spy on us, like in the book 1984. I think that's the book I'm thinking about..

QUOTE(mipadi @ Jun 2 2005, 10:49 AM) The fact that all rights not delegated to the federal government are rights of the states is the most important...? Yes. If the Constitution didn't grant a power to the Fed Government, it cannot have it. This means that there is a restriction in gaining more power, prevent a powerful central government, something that the Founding Fathers fear. James Madisons said this means there wouldn't be a NATIONAL constitution/government, just a FEDERAL one. There is a difference. Imagine that the US Government has no limitations set, no restraints as to what powers it can/cannot have... |

Well, let's disqualify the First, Second, Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth, and see where it goes from there...
(You already know it'll move to women's suffrage, etc etc.) This topic isn't really debate-worthy. Move it to the homework forum. |
