Well, I've been invited to a cuople of them in Junior High. And to me it really depends how much people are willing to give out. Usually you get alot of money form bat mitzvahs...I remember someone spending 20-30 on each person..Thats just because the neighborhood i live in is wealthy... But once again, its really how much you are willignto spend nad whast yuor budget ![]() Btw Congrats ^^! I hope this kinda helped (o'-'o) |

For a birthday I usually give a $20-$25 present, so for a bat mitzvah should it be like $30? Btw I think a bar mitzvah is for guys and bat mitzvah is for girls.

people don't know what a bat mitzvah is......i find this utterly sad....
![]() ![]() bat mitzvah gifts can be outrageously expensive, or they can be $20 or something. family and close family friends, or people of the temple, usually give expensive gifts. we gave my cousin a heart bracelet from tiffany's for her bat mitzvah. but, if you're just a friend, and not a friend from temple, it would be customary to do $20 and up (it would be nicer if it was $30) but don't make it too expensive unless you're close. if you know as much about bat mitzvahs and bar mitzvahs as the people in this thread, i suggest you read up a bit before going. trust me, i've been to quite a few - they're all different, but if you know nothing about the jewish customs and culture, you'll be freaked out. |

hmm, well for my friend's bat mitzvah, I got her a $30 gift. I would guess anything $20+ depending on how close you are.

i went to my first bar mitzah just over a year ago, and even though it wasn't one of my good friends, i think i gave him $50. i wasn't sure either and i still thought that might not be enough, then i found out that everyone else had just given him $20 or something (one of his best friends just have him a giant bag of cheetos!). so i would just give them about as much as you would for say, their birthday.

Thanks everyone! I've been to a bar mitzvah before so I basically know what it's all about and everything. Last time I gave $25 to the mall, but they were twins, so I didn't think I gave them enough. So I was just making sure for this time. I think I'll give her $30 to Starbucks because we're just friends and not close or anything.

It's something to do with jewish stuff..... but I never even heard about this bat mitzvah cause I'm not even jewish ![]() just because you're not jewish doesn't mean you shouldn't know anything about judaism.. go read a book. a bat/bar mitzvah happens when a boy/girl turns 13. it's a coming of age. the boy/girl becomes a man/woman in the jewish community's eyes. it's a big deal. in the morning, there's a temple service in which prayers are said and the person being mitzvahed reads from the Torah (in Hebrew, which they've been practicing and learning for most of their lives) in front of everyone for the first time. various members of the family also read scriptures and sections of the Torah. at night, there's a huge party that goes on for hours, pretty much at the level of a prom. you dress nicely for both. you must be covered up during the morning temple service but wear whatever you want for the party (a dress, but whatever kind you want). it's very rude to have a nicer dress than the person being mitzvahed, so you wanna get a dress to about the level of winter formal, but not like, a prom dress. guys wear suits for both, and yammachas during temple. |
