Ok, for the people that get good grades, like straight as and bs or whatever you and your parents consider good... doesnt it seem like we still have all these restrictions, like we cant go to parties and etc. etc. but all the failing people get to, well not get to always, but go to parties and go to the mall by themselves, etc. etc. But we get praise from our parents, but no privlages. Do you find that ironic?

YES. But over the past year or so, I've used my awesome debate tactics to convince my parents that it's truly unfair for them to be so strict on us. Just as long as we're doing well in school, they should be more lenient towards what we do.

i find that incredibly ironic: i am a good student in school, yet i can't go to school dances or whatever because my parents want me to 'study my lesson'. my other friends parents don't care that much! also: i took the SAT this yr, for the CTY talent search: my parents bought a HUGE SAT book and made me take it with me where ever i went over vacation and all. sometimes i just want to have less strict parents.

Yeah my mom thinks that I shouldn't get praised for doing something that is expected of me...it really sucks. She claims she trusts me, but she always has me on such a tight leash, I can't hardly do anything it seems like.

Hm... You're kinda right? I don't know... but it doesn't mean that the parents let them. Kids do that behind their parent's back like without letting them know it. Well I tell since I'm a good girl?????? lol....... um yeah anyways. I don't really get A's and B's... but I still get the good stuff. I get big allowance from my dad... I receive more? Kinda weird... but yeah.

AllI get is like... $20 for straight A's... Actually I rarely get straight A's... I always get that 1 B+ (89.# %! Damn that teacher!) and the rest all A's. But even so I just get $20 and that's it.

This one guy's parents say that if he gets above a 3.0 then he'll get a new car... WTF pinch.gif My dad doesn't even want me to drive and I know my mother won't buy me a car. ermm.gif Ah well..

Whenever my mom sees me playing a game or on aim chatting (she thinks it email), she automatically assumes that I'm slacking (even though often I'm typing an essay, researching, etc.) and that my grades are dropping. Aish yawn.gif

well, i never got anything for good grades either back in the day...but now i'm a slacker and today i realized i failed every class...with a 55-50 because of cutting too much...so my mom told me that if i get at least a 70 for each class i get $200, i guess it's different if they want you to reform
when i'm reading the news on yahoo she thinks i'm lookin at stuff about boys or make up or whatever _dry.gif

but anyway, the topic, it's not really true for everyone, some people can just study n get everything done and go party...and if you do get really good grades, you can always try to blackmail your parents and be like "i'll fail every class if you don't let me go ________" if your parents are asian it might have a good chance of working...after all, asian parents are all about status and gossip _dry.gif

I made good grades, never snuck out, never lied, and I wasnt trusted with anything. I like, got in trouble if I gave my friend (who lives a bloack away) a ride home from school with me. But 2 of my best friends; one that snuck out and got caught on a regular basis, and the other who smoked weed like...24-7 and smelled like it every time he came home, were allowed to do so many things. I mean, I wasnt even allowed to be on the phone after 9:30 til I turned 18 cuz they thought I was planning something...ugh. I never got rewarded for being a really well behaved kid. I don't get it. I should have been the one with privaleges...but its like I was being punished for what other stupid kids were doing. mad.gif

maybe their parents don't put enough pressure on them / care about their grades.

so theyre failing courses ---> and their parents don't care ---> so they can party and do whatever the hell they want.

it all adds up.

Oh hey, I never thought of it that way. Good reason thumbsup.gif

And bleh I neglected the "don't you find that ironic?" part. Yea I do find it ironic.. But hey, in the future we'll be able to party all we want instead of working 12+ hour shifts at a dead-end job and never getting to party. I have the future to look forward to. I guess that's what keeps me going, even with all the pressure.

It sounds like you're stereotyping that irresponsible parents that let their kids out have kids who are stupid, and really protective parents have smart kids. That's not true...although in a lot of cases it is.

What I find is that if you're "smart" and get good grades, you get no acknowledgement. If you are "stupid" and you get good grades, you're treated like some god.

We don't get as many privileges because we raise our parents' expectations for us. They don't expect us to want to party, they expect us to want to 'excel'. Seems like crap to me. stubborn.gif

I don't get praise or priveledges (sp). My grandfather sends me $30 for first honors, and $25 for second (wee! all first honors this year!). But no "good job" or anything like that. And I'm not invited to parties, yet, I'm a freshman. And all the sophomores all drink/smoke pot, and I don't want to do that stuff.

I don't think so... maybe for some people but not for me cause I never study anyway. I'm always on the computer. And.. even if I was allowed out, I would (i think) know when I need to stay home to study.

My grades aren't good enough for my parents even though I have an 85 average... and that's sad. There's no pleasing them. My mom says I can start to go out more (I'm NEVER out of the house w/ friends) when I get good grades. And by good grades she means a 95 average. I CAN'T DO THAT!!! mad.gif

Heh. My parents always bitch about my grades. They're never happy. I get a 80. They start comparing me to my cousin and crap saying how come I cant be like her. I get a 90. They still bitch. I get a perfect grade. They dont say shit not even a pat on the back :|At the end of freshman year i had a average of 93%. Instead of saying good job she "So what. Michelle got a 98%. Why cant you get that?" So i said f**k them and stopped studying back in sophmore year. Still pass exams but not with a very high grade. Bout to graduate in about 3 months. My average went from a 93% to a 80% _dry.gif
O yea. Im still able to go out. They cant do anything bout that.
