They are a pretty good band. I like em, they have a different sound. I can relate with a lot of their songs. What about you? Have you a. heard of them and b. like them?

Their name sounds familiar, but I don't think I've heard any of their songs. Any suggestions as to which ones I should check out?

no they're not new...

i've heard a lot about them, so this summer i listened to some thirty second clips on amazon, but they really didn't seem too impressive. they don't seem like a band you can really appreciate with thirty seconds clips, though (all the saddle creek catalouges hail them as "lyrically dense wonders"). wasn't the main singer a child star?

I'll give you guys a little history ...

Jenny Lewis (guitarist/lead singer) used to be a child star and is also at the moment in the Tamborello inspired group The Postal Service. You may notice her from the movie Pleasantville where she had a pretty hefty part. Blake Sennett (guitarist/lead singer) can also be recognized from the show Boy Meets World where he plays Joey the Rat. He was also from the show Salute Your Shorts.

but...but...but...why did you change from banddorko?? cry.gif

anyway, rilo kiley is ok. i was a bit dissappointed in them actually. i made the effort to listen to them after finding out that jenny lewis, the lead singer, did the back ups for the postal service (but she didnt do nothing better...) i think that if i listened to more of them than i had, theyd grow on me, but they werent what i wanted

I've only heard one song, "Christmas Cake", at least that's what I think it's called... got it through a friend's LJ.

But yeah, I knew her voice sounded familiar but I couldn't place it! But now I know, hehehe.

Will make sure to download those songs y'all mentioned.

Go to saddle-creek.com to listen to some songs by any of the saddle-creek bands.

YES! my saddle creek shirt just came yesterday!

but only one of rilo kiley's cds has been released on saddle creek (the execution of all things). take offs and landings was released on barsuk, while their latest release, more adventurous, was released on warner brothers.

They've gotten a lot of play since "Portions For Foxes" was featured in Grey's Anatomy.

I think my favorite song has to be "A Better Son/Daughter". :)

*gasp* Am I the only person that isn't terribly fond of Rilo Kiley? My ex introduced me to them a long time ago (maybe that has to do with my lack of appreciation..?), but I just couldn't get into them. I liked the song "I Never." I thought (and still think) it's a catchy, cute little song. I think Jenny Lewis is adorable as well. Just overall, not my favorite band. I was thinking of checking out her solo album though. Has anyone had a listen yet?

Her solo album is pretty good. Listen to "Melt Your Heart" if you like "I Never". The other stand out song is "You Are What You Love".

Don't bother with the solo album unless you either a) already like Rilo Kiley, which you don't seem to, or b) actually like country. I gave it a few listens, but just couldn't get into it. It was hard enough handling the country-ness of Rilo Kiley.
