i had noticed a few people with the firefox graphic in their sigs and was wondering what was so good about firefox. like why is it "safer and faster"? i am not trying to put it down or say anything bad about it, i just wanted to know what was so good about it.

it has something to do with the running of activex, which is the biggest risk of getting stuff. And as you can guess, it is Internet Explorer that carries the automated running and such. There's something about spyware too, but I'm not very sure about how firefox is better to be exact.

All I know is, it hasn't randomly crashed on me yet =)

ahhh Firefox is so much better than IE in so many ways. BUT it has a few fatal flaws IMO. pinch.gif Like it doesn't play background music on most xanga. And the div codes in Firefox looks different than in IE. They don't allow colored scrollbars either. Some css just looks differently in Firefox. I had it last year for a couple months. I LOVE Firefox's tabbed browsing.. ahh I wish IE had that. And in Firefox when you right click an image you can zoom it in or out or you can remove it! That was pretty neat. I just stopped using it because of some xanga viewing issues. Almost all divs are misaligned in Firefox. =oT

that's not a flaw in firefox. it's a flaw in the web site's code.

firefox is a web browser, quickly growing in popularity.

firefox is safer, because it doesn't have as many vulnerabilites that IE has.
firefox is faster, because the bloat was removed to make it faster.

Yeah, ^that^ gives some pretty good reasons.

Anyways, I first started using Firefox because IE was annoying me... It seemed like I was getting a lot of spyware/adware while using IE, and my computer was going slower. I heard about Firefox and started to use that instead, and it's a whole lot better... no adware & a whole lot faster.

No, Firefox does not display many css/div codes the same way IE does. It's just the way that Firefox reads things I guess. I loved many of Firefox's features and tried to find reasons why so many websites didn't display the same way it does in IE... but everyone just said that Firefox had compatibility issues. If it was a flaw in the website's code then why does it display corectly in IE? When it comes down to it.. IE is just much better for web designers because it reads css and html much better w/o as much problems as Firefox.

IE does not conform strictly to the standard W3C standards and was designed for practicality... such as borders and paddings in divs don't add to the div size overall etc. Although this creates cooler stuff such as xanga skins, the deviations are too great for other browsers to handle

I'm using Firefox.

But it screws up people's xangas and you can't listen to their music.

And also, I'm not sure but for me it blocks my pop-ups (for ex. the extra smileys or the ecard thing )

But yeah, it's faster and I kinda like not listening to annoying music on people's xangas.

Mozilla Firefox. I use Firefox, because it has faster internet access, it blocks unnecessary pop-up ads, it has built in Google search bar, and tabbed browsing to enable you to surf the web much faster. _smile.gif

Firefox is better than IE because Firefox does not allow ActiveX which was a thing created by microsoft which basically allows computers to install software onto your comp through IE, that was fixed when it made it so you had to click yes or no to have it installed. Then that was not working so they came up with Service pack 2 in windows XP which blocks all activeX controls, however this in and of itself isn't all that safe and IE itself is full of holes which can be exploited. Ease of use wise they're both the same. I just use IE more, but I have firefox and it's set to default but I always go for the IE icon, habit I suppose.

because if you were to write a virus to target computers, would you want to target %90 of the world's computers or %3?

smaller targets= less chance of getting hit.

that, in addition to firefox's safety tools and customability are great.

i switched after spyware started bogging down my system. This was with two spyware-removers, two firewalls, and antivirus.

since switiching, i have not had one case of adware or a virus.

i only wish windows would stop opening I.E. everytime i click on a 'help' file or something in a program.

Well it's more secure and you have more control. You get tabbed browsing (very nice), extensions (very cool :)) and skins and it's just .. FIREFOX :)

Two words, TABBED. WINDOWS.

So much easier. I love Firefox, but I use IE to view people's webpages so it looks the way it was intended or whatever.

And some fonts looks don't show up on Firefox, like Terminal..

But I like Firefox. I have both Firefox and IE.
