When you said you loved her
She believed you although
She didn’t have reason too
She was just a girl
Wanting the fairy tale and
Now she has closed the book.
It didn’t end with “happily ever after”
She should have known it wouldn’t
For there was never a “once upon a time.”

Her story was a sham
There was no wicked stepmother
There was no villain
The hero was a fake
And her prince charming
Would not be
Kissing her back to life

She poisoned the apple
And bit it on her own accord
Then lay in a glass coffin
Built by her own hands
And the little seven men
Did not attend her funeral
There was no kingdom for this story
Only that of her own mind

The world in which she lives
Won’t allow such fantasy although
The anecdotes live well in
Children’s books, movies and minds
There is no patience for those who dream
So for now, there can only be
The End

awesome. so sweet yet it's bitter. i loved how you related it to a fairy tale and this line stuck out to me in particular:

I especially like the concept of contrasting a fairytale storybook to real life. Beautifully written, Jackie.
