Well..a couple of days ago a girl in seventh grade was planning to pierce her tongue. She already had the tongue rings and such, she just needed to pierce it, without her parents knowing. When I found out what she was doing it with, a push pin, I was in shock. blink.gif I mean, it was really unsanitary, and it would've needed sterilization. Turns out she chickened out, like all my friends thought she would.

The point of this topic is what do you guys think about self piercing?
I think it's fine if you know what to use and that you're under parental supervision, I suppose, if you need it _smile.gif

I don't see why you would need a piercing...but that could be scary. Especially for myself. I don't handle pain or blood well, and knowing myself as I do, I would screw it up. Yeah, better to leave it to people who have the tools and skill to get the job done.

Yeh. This girl at my school tried to pierce her own belly button once.
If you're going to pierce yourself.. do it professionally.. and if you're not allowed, then just wait..

I agree, I wouldn't be able to handle it. My friends and I were wondering why in the world she would want a piercing anyway.

Well for me, I had my ears pierced till I was 4 and it KINDA closed up, but it turned out it didn't close all the way because I was trying to wear these earrings I thought were pretty, and I could still see the mark where my piercing used to be, so I kept pushing the earrings in and they finally went through. So if you call that self-piercing, it's not that bad. I haven't gotten an infection yet.

Self piecing shouldnt be done, at all! You're never sure what will happen in the future, meaning like swelling, infection, blah blah blah. ONLY Professionals should be allowed to do the piercing. Its common sense.

Well as long as you don't get STDs. Sharing needles is a bad thing. Well I don't know if the sharp objects you used is what you share with others, but you know it's bad haha.

Well my friend actually self-pierced herself and she knows the rules of the STDs. So right after she used it, she threw it in the trash can. So after you self-pierce, you gotta threw it right away before someone touches it and use it.

Piercing yourself is kinda stupid, especially if you have no clue to what you're doing.
Just go see a professional when you are older, I see no point in piercings other than earrings.

Levy2k6; don't double post, it's really really really really bad on forums. blink.gif

umm...i don't think people pierce themselves with those kinds of needles...and i think it's aids you get from infected needles...but the person who used it has to have the hiv or aids virus _unsure.gif

anyway, i think its stupid. there's a big enough chance of it getting infected by a pro let alone doing it yourself.

it's called go to claire's for ears and piercing parlors and such for other areas. you don't want to end up getting an infection on your tongue.

push pins are bad.

When it comes to piercing the tongue.. it should definately be done by a proffessional because you can hit the wrong nerve and that definately won't be a good thing. I think it is alright do self piercing when it comes to ears , but anything besides that I think it should be done proffessionally.

I think it's a very very ignorant thing to do. Piercing your body is a potentially dangerous thing, and in the wrong hands could kill you. Save yourself the hospital bill and the posible disfiguration and go to a professional, and i don't mean the girl at Claires. A licensed piercer who knows what the hell they are doing. *steps off soap box*

self piercing? i'm okay with it. as long as it's on the ears (i think you can buy a piercing kit or something _unsure.gif). but on the tongue? you should go to the professional people.

Self-piercing's okay, I guess, if you do it on the ears. Anywhere else is unsafe. Besides, places other than your ears that you want to be pierced have a higher risk of infection anyway, even if done by professionals. So don't pierce your own belly button, lip, nipple (hey, whatever rocks your boat). If you must pierce your ears by yourself, make sure it's clean.

My mom used to work at a jewelry shop a looong time ago in Hong Kong. She'd rub ginger root on the piercee's ear for a couple of minutes, sterilize a needle, and stab it through. It's not very painful because the ginger root burns for a while. //random.

My friend took her earring off, and within a day the hole started to close up. She heard from the piercing guy that if that happens you need to get it fixed immediately. So during lunch, they went to the nurse, got some alcohol and a clean needle, and stabbed it through. Whether it was absolutely necessary to pierce it at that moment, I have no clue.
