What do you guys think about the silicone wrist bands that everyone's wearing now days?

I wear a yellow livestrong one, because it's supporting that cancer fund. But I think they are getting pretty dumb, because everyone has one, and there are so many different kinds now, and the fact that you can customize them, it makes it even worse.

What do you guys think?

It's great for funding for cancer or any other causes. But it is really getting dumb now that there are a lot. Schools can now customize their own and Nike has their own bracelets. I thought it was cool when it was for a cause. But now that it's a fashion statement, it is totally lame-o. _dry.gif

I don't think that the bracelets are dumb.. more-so the majority of the people that wear them. They think it's some cool new fad now, but in reality.. they're for a good cause.
Most of the people at my school don't even know what the significance of the bracelets are. _dry.gif

I never got one myself, but I do think it's getting sorta out of hand with all the customizable ones and stuff. I don't have a problem with the original ones though because after all, they are for a good cause.

if i want to support cancer causes, i will do that with more reliable charities than wearing stupid yellow wristbands that are now nothing more than a trend

The livestrong bands were pretty cool until nike started to make them, they're so money greedy.

indeed, its is getting dumber, but braces is to show that you care but people who sell braces actually trying to make money. they dont care about caring . their just greedy and have no moral for others. thats what i think.

I love the fact that they are raising money for a good cause. If people spend ass loads of money for rolls of crappy gift wrap from their kids' school fundraiser, I don't think it hurts to pay, what, $1-$5 for a wristband that might help make an impact on the world. Gift wrap could never do that.

The ones that are for a good cause are YAY!
But the ones that are pointless like this white one that says "PLAYA" on it, it's just stupid.

those wristband has now been a "trend". anyone who wears it for fashion is just jumping on the bandwagon. but if your serioulsy trying to support and help cancer, then its all good.

Mmm, if it's about the meaning, how can it be dumb?

You're basically saying that funding cancer research is dumb.
Maybe you people who are saying that really are wearing it for the fashion.

Its just really getting out of hand these days. Once and a while a yellow livestrong was an awesome thing, but now its a trend that wont stop. Everyone has changed the reason to wear them.

i think they're dumb. because it's like, "whoa i donated a buck, i'm cool. look at me whoo i donated a buck, i rock."

if you want to donate, donate.

no need to get some bracelet to advert. the fact.

but, whatever gets kids to donate money.

The only bands i deplore are the Nike ones. They're only there for profitting. you shouldn't hate the entire wristband industry, most are there for charity, and if you ARE hating on it, it's because you're identifying them as fashion items. Don't, they're there to show that the person supports a cause.

They are getting out of hand. The Patriots are giving out blue ones that read "Go Patriots" and donating a dollar to the Patriots foundation if you spend more than $75 at the Patriots store online.

yellow livestrong was fine. but now there's tie-dye and rainbow and pink and blue and purple and red and white and black...it's just craziness.
i've even seen some polkadots.

edit: ina way, the yellow livestrongs are a way of advertising their donation service because alot of people didn't even really know about the donation service before, but with the livestrongs, everyones like HEY WHERE'D YOU GET THAT?

yea, becuase we all know the charitable thing to do is to donate a dollar then brag about it...

rolleyes.gif

they are fashion items. some people don't even know what they're for. needless to say, the people who wear them wouldn't have donated if they didn't get the braclet.

when i donate a buck to the salvation army, i don't ask them to give me something so i can be cool and say i donated...

i just donate.

Why should it matter? If you think they're stupid then just don't buy one. They're supporting cancer and other good causes.. Sure people think they're a fashion statement nowadays, but it's still for a good cause. So you can't wear cool-looking wristbands and support cancer-funding too? I wanna get the Tsunami fund one because I haven't done anything to help out the victims of the Tsunami tragedy yet. And if my Interact club is going to get a Maroon one that says "Pirates", then I'm gonna get that one too. Those'll be the only ones I'll have.. Yep.
