is there a way to make the background white

is there aw ay to make the background white in this picture? because i tried just earsing the background on MS paint and its driving me foolish.. i forget how to do it on PSP or PS..if someone could give me a tutorial for that i'd greatly apreciate. i know there is one but i just dont remember the name...bleh hehe :)

PS the picture below .... thats the one i want just a plain white background for instead of that brownish design one.

I don't really like MS paint, you should try Adobe, I removed my backgrounds with it

use the magic wand tool on PS. set the sensitivity at whatever will work best to only pick up the background colors.

Feather the sides of it.

Edit.
You can also use that..lasso tool? or the magnetic tool. I did it of her and I sorta cut out her hair, but if you're patient enough, it's possible. Magnetic tool works the best.
