These are the nominees for the Best Picture of the year for 2004. The Academy Award Ceremony should be this Sunday I think....They announced the nominees on "The Critics Choice Awards" tonight. (the critics choice award winner was sideways. which i think was dumb). Which one do you think was the best picture??

Phantom of the Opera because the only other one I saw was Finding Neverland which was good, but not as amazing as Phantom.

the Phantom was great... not as good as the musical, of course, but still amazing.

the aviator was really good too. those were the only two i've seen out of the choices, but i liked phantom better.

well .... the academy awards are in Februrary ..... the only awards show that is coming up soon is the Golden Globes.

Those nominees btw are from the Critics Choice Awards .... which has no say in the nominees for the Oscars. Although, they are a great indicator for which ones will be picked (which is due to the fact that they nominate 10 films while the academy nominates 5) .... Personally, the ones that I think will be nominated are ....

Sideways, Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator, Hotel Rwanda, Ray

I wouldn't be able to say which movie was the best as I haven't see them all .... but I did thoroughly enjoy Sideways .... and mildly enjoyed The Aviator. Ray has no chance at winning the oscar ..... In my opinion, its either Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator, or Sideways for the Oscar.

I'm going with my number one guy, Johnny Depp, "Finding Neverland". Not only was Johnny gorgeous in the movie, the acting from him, Kate Winslet, Freddie Highmore, and just about everyone else was spectacular. Even with all of its limited releases, it's managed to be in the top 25 of the box office.

I never heard of Eternal Sunshine mellow.gif

Anyways Finding Neverland was a great movie! Even though I haven't seen it. But an actor like Johnny Depp and Katy Rose -- they are awesome! Also I like it because it's like a fantasy and fairy tale-like

Sideways was definately the best movie released in the judging period. Somehow I cant see it winning though because it wasnt a huge blockbuster movie, although it did make a nice chunk of change. Likeways with Kinsey but it made considerably less at the box office. Sideways or Kinsey would be my choices though, hopefully one of them pulls it off. Ill add some stats for those who care, you have to remember that these is just the total gross to date, these movies were released at different points in the year so they may seem a little decieving.

Aviator

Opening Weekend - $858,021
Gross - $31,541,390
Budget - $100,000,000 (estimated)

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Opening Weekend - $8,175,198
Gross – $34,126,138
Budget - $20,000,000 (estimated)

Sideways

Opening Weekend - $207,042
Gross – $22,404,206
Budget - $12,000,000

Million Dollar Baby

Opening Weekend - $179,953
Gross – $1,044,149
Budget – Unknown

Kinsey

Opening Weekend - $169,038
Gross - $6,734,321
Budget - $11,000,000 (estimated)

Phantom of the Opera

Opening Weekend - $4,001,890
Gross – $16,178,431
Budget - $60,000,000 (estimated)

Hotel Rwanda

Opening Weekend - $100,091
Gross – $426,803
Budget – unknown

Ray

Opening Weekend - $20,039,730
Gross – $71,611,065
Budget - $40,000,000 (estimated)

Finding Neverland

Opening Weekend - $220,524 (I believe this was released at different times in different parts of the country)
Gross – $24,676,372
Budget – Unkown

Collateral

Opening Weekend - $24,701,458
Gross – $100,003,492
Budget - $65,000,000 (estimated)

Finding Neverland didn't do too well in the box office because it was first released in the UK, and the limited released in LA and NY, and then again in some other places, and then again, and again, and again, and they just FINALLY nation wide released it about 2 weeks ago. Argh, stupid Miramax. It was supposed to be released like two years ago, but because of Warners [Or was it Disney?] Peter Pan, they had to agree to release it later.

GRR!! I was watching this Chinese News station and they voted Aviator 3 1/2 stars whereas Finding Neverland only got 3!

Aviator got most reviews. But I don't like Leo DiCaprio, so I rather not watch it. I prefer Johnny Depp anyday.

gr, and I thought Finding Neverland got more reviews! Leo can burn in hell.

Phantom Of the Opera, yes, it is a well film.
the music and the plot have been well managed.
