At our school we are separated by boys and girls in the courtyard in the mornings and by tables at lunch. This gives us no time to converse with our guy friends. The separation for lunch has gone on for years. But the 30 minutes in the courtyard that we get has just recently happened [january 5th] and protests have started, parents are screaming, mosh pits and riots have also began.

I was wondering if you agree with this. AND. how to properly protest, without getting suspended like other students have.

Our school was put on the news and internet.

Are you kidding me?
Gender separation? That's gotta be a joke.
I would switch to a normal school.

WHAT?! Wow. That's ridiculous - what's they're reasoning? You should try to start a petition or something. Or get as many kids as you can and try to convince them to not go to school for awhile or something.

We started 5 petitions...over 400 kids signed. The teachers didn`t listen. So we started making fliers, threats, wearing all white, skipping classes, etc. most parents disagree with it, too and they argued. It`s a public school yet they`re separating us, and we never see each other, the 4 minutes in between classes is the only time we really can...

That's outrageous! My school doesn't separate the sexes unless it's for changing rooms in gym, which is fairly logical. Our school doesn't allow hugging or whatever, but the students still do it and nobody gets in trouble for doing so.

That is the most stupidest thing I have ever heard.

Gender separation? That is unbelievable. Start a petition and disobey the rules of the separation and all mix together.

Instead of taking to the teachers about it, I think you should go to a higher power, such as the Board of Education. Usually teachers just follow what the prinipal says, and he follows the Board of Education.

Well, the government (what do they know?) says that girls learn better in classes with no boys, and boys learn better in classes with no girls. So, maybe they're looking out for your acedemic future? I mean, I think that they should let you be kids and hang out with whoever you want, but.. that's just me.

^^ thats prolly true, but what if girls talk or whatever the same thing they do with the guys in a just girls class and they dont learn better?

and i think its stupid. IMO, the girls can be gay or bi and get the gay marriages populations go up. you should move to a differnet school so you can hang out or talk to your boyfriend or guy friends.

They're seperating genders in school?! Are your teachers MAD or something?! THAT IS INSANE! O_O! I say you should talk to the board of education, because you have no right to be seperated

what the HELL? that made NO sense...

placing genders apart isn't new with public schools. i read a news thing (yes, i can read now!) and it said how gender separation is a good thing b/c a guy's and girl's mind works differently (no shit). it's from last year, so it's kind of dated.

i think it's stupid. it just is.

RIDICULOUS.
start a petition, dont use profane language, dont start riots, dont start strikes/protests/and etc

talk to the principal...list your reasons and stuff.
i did this at my old shcool when we were against something, and they changed the rule. :)

like what the article said, compromise with her and DONT FIGHT OR ARGUE. that just lessens your chance of having it your way.

you can't get suspended for protesting, that's one of your constitutional rights mad.gif

it doesn't matter if you get suspended or put in jail for standing up for what you believe in, if you want change, then you can't just sit there and obey their stupid rules

^ This is true. This is the only way. Besides, I bet the school board is promoting this. If they weren't, it wouldn't exist now. Think about it. Also, this goes in here because we're not debating whether or not this is unfair. She's asking us for help on how she can silently protest.

WTF?!? does ur school realize it's 2005?!? i think ur principal is stuck in some time warp where up is down and wrong is right...in my school girls and guys can socialize however much they want...there's people always hugging and some people even make out in the hallways and the teachers don't say a thing...a school's job is not to seperate people...it's to get you prepared for the "real" world...ur gonna have to minglel in the "real" world, so why the hell are they holding you back? i think u should try to protest and get suspended...if everyone does that they'll haev no one to teach or to seperate...lol...that would be funny...u should also get ur local media involved...they can do a lot...well, i really don't have too many suggestions...but u should fight for your rights!

That. Is. Stupid.

My school was planning on getting separate gender classes. But then they realized it wouldn't work that well due to the girls and the guys are already used to the old system, and plus alot of the teachers objected too.

Gender separation is so.. It's not how things should be. What does the principal expect the students to do anyhow? Either we're too innocent or her imagination is wild. A petition doesn't always work, especially if you're going to sumit it to the teachers and the principal. Take it up to the school board. Boycott school if parents really disagree that much too. It's unfair to do that. Stupid idea.
