i heard that to get ride of blackheads, you can steam your face so it will make you sweat and open up your pores, then use a bobbypin to push them out or something [?]
my question is do u steam ur face over like a boiling pot of water or is there like a special technique that comes with it all? |

ive never done that before, but this is what ive heard:
get a steaming bowl of water, put your face near it >like right above it< and then wrap a towel over your head and the bowl so the steam doesnt get out. do it for like 5-10 min i would think? not sure though. |

Ew that sounds painful. But yeah...steam is used to open your pores, but I'd suggest just washing your face with something that would kill the blackheads opposed to popping them and making them more irritated.

well i've read in a magazine, that you turn the shower on as hot as it can go, let it get really steamy in the bathroom, and just set in the for about 10 minutes, then take astrigent and those blackhead stripes to your face while your pores are still open

it's true that the steam does open up pores, but i don't think it'll be healthy if you're like FORCING the blackheads out =/

i think...steam them up so your pores open and then with a towel gently rub your uh..blackheads in one direction...it works for me and requires no pain [unless you rub furiously with your towel]

steaming does help alot. I got this like lil face steamer that you put ur face in, and it creates steam so you don't have to do the whole sink thing...but if you don't wanna get one of those, then put hot water in the sink, and put a towel over ur head and steam for like 15 minutes. and i mean you don't need to put a bobby pin to push them out...but after you steam, be sure to put cold water on ur face to close the pores before you put nethin else on ur face, and take off all makeup and stuff, and it's better to do it right before you go to sleep, not when ur rushing off to school, or when you need to put on makeup soon after or somethan, u know?

if you want you can get a boiling pot of water and use that...
or if you want to spend the money there is a pecial machine that will do it for you.. about 10 mins with the steam should work when you pop them go in a v shape because if you just go horizontally there will be still oil and gunk in the pore, just the black part of the black head is gone. and then prolly the next two days you find a black head in the same spot again. going in a v shape might make you lose the top part the nose skin and leaves a slight discoloration if you press to hard at once... but it comes off after a week and the discoloration is not noticable. |

Except you're not supposed to use a bobby pin. You are to use a comedo extractor. Click here for steps. |

I've used this technique before. Wash and exfoliate your face. Boil some water, pour it into a bowl, put your head over the bowl with a towel over your head and the bowl. Sit there for about 5-10 minutes(depending on how your necks doing :p) and then use an astringent or blackhead strips.
DONT FORCE THEM OUT! When you "pop" them or force them out by yourself (apparently dermatologists can do it) you have a really high chance of spreading the dirt and bacteria stuff that causes them. In the end it hurts like hell, can scar your face, and usually makes it worse. |

It's a bad idea to stretch your pores out more than they already are. While steaming your face does open pores, be sure to close them afterward (with ice water) so the dirt you just removed doesn't go right back in.
People who live in more humid areas tend to have more acne because of this. |

I take really hot showers, and it does open up my pores. After I get out of the shower, I use one of those Biore pore strips, and they come out so much easier. |

I never used this technique for blackehads, because i dont really get them, but it relly helps in smoothing and deep cleaning my face. Although I do it very differently then what is posted; boil water in the microwave for 4 min (should be just about boiling), steam your face under a towel until its not really that hot anymore (a rough estimate is about 5 min) and then use face scrub, then rinse with cold water. It works very well for me even though i dont have many problems with acne.

I steam my face, but I don't put my face over a boil. Once a week I stay in the shower for about an hour and it really opens up my pores. Then afterwards I wash my face.

why not just use pore strips? Because if you have like little invisible hairs on your nose, the strip will just take off the hair and not the blackheads as intended. I just use Noxema for blackheads (I got it in a sample) and use that only on my nose to make sure its blackhead free. Otherwise, I just pop them with my fingers. |

Try using Biore's Pore Strip.
if you have a lot of blackheads it'll work for you, but if you don't maybe it won't. It worked for my brother but not for me. =[ |

Ew, no. DO NOT stick pins into your face. NEVER squeeze blemished skin full stop, because they will only leave an ugly scar. Just keep your fingertips AWAY.
Yes. Steaming the face is great for opening and cleansing your pores. It also gets rid of excess oil which causes you to break out. After steaming the face, cleanse with a soap which suits your skin type (dry, mild, combination, oily to very oily) rinse with cool water to close your pores back up again. Dry. And then use a blemish cream. I love Clinique skin range and I'm sure their "anti-blemish" range is just as great as the rest of their products. My other tips would be: Not to use anything harsh for washing your face. Use your hands. If you feel you don't have the time to steam your face, use a hot flannel and lay it across your face, it does the same thing. Having hot showers also does the same thing. And that's just what I do. Once you're out, apply your cream. I don't even get blemished skin. But steaming the face is good for anyone once in a while. Just don't do it on a daily basis. Over-steaming your face rids you of excess oil. You don't want to rid yourself of the natural oils that keep your skin from being dry. |
