I have to get them again. I was very forgetful. I got my braces when I was back in 6th grade, and when I got them taken off, I knew I should've worn my retainers, but I tend to forget I had them. I mean, don't get me wrong, I did wear my retainers, but those were only when I remembered to put them in. pinch.gif

1. well, dentists tend to glue your brackets(metal part of braces) close to your gum so it does hurt a little. you get used to it however
2. the process of it? not really. i have a jaw problem so my dentist is trying to fix that. hmmm..
3. it looks like a wire across your teeth

OMG you poor thing. I had braces when I was in 8th grade. Luckily I only had to have them for a year and a half...then after the doc took them off he put a perm retainer on my top teeth. However the bottom ones went sorta crooked again but i refuse to get them again.

That happened to me but only with my top teeth. I have a permanent retainer on the bottom which is what my orthodonist should have done with the top in the first place. I had them off for a year then he put them back on for about 5 months. I just got those off again recently too. It was horrid finding out I needed them again..

EDIT: man this is an old old topic.

That happened to me. But their reason for putting them on the second time was because "We didn't leave them on long enough" and they made me pay full price. They're the ones that took them off!

Anyone have any experience with Invisalign or Orthoclear? I'm supposed to be getting Invisalign in the next few months. I'm excited about it, because the sooner I get them on, the sooner it will be over, and it should only be about a year. So yeah. I'm kinda nervous about the pain though.

No, it doesn't hurt when your braces get taken off. They get some hot air thing and they melt the glue from the brackets and just pull it off, you won't feel a thing. And yes, you'll sound funny while you wear your retainers when you talk, you'll have trouble saying some letters, but it's no big deal lol.

I got my braces taken off a year ago, and I wear my retainers nearly every night because I've heard of some friends who's teeth shifted for not wearing retainers. So, I don't want that to happen to me lol.

And to whoever asked about what retainers were, they're things to put into you're mouth after you get your braces off to keep them from shifting back to their original state. It's not something you have to wear 24/7 though, at first I had to wear mine at least 12 hours a day and a few months later it was down to 6 hours a day.. and then eventually my orthodontist just told me to wear it at least 3 times a week, but I still wear it more often than that just incase lol.
