i hate it when people have "google.com" under image credits or say, "i gotz alll mah imagez fro g0ogl3". because you didn't. because google didn't not make the images, but provide a search to help you find them. it's like stealing because you're taking any image from another site use it, but credit the wrong search. it could be copyrighted.

have any of you noticed this? it drives me nuts.

Our teachers go crazy with that, because when people cite sources on research papers they'll put "www.google.com" Its amazing how ignorant some people can get _smile.gif

well you can take an image off of google, change it, make it your own, and that wouldn't be stealing. But I don't do that a lot.

well as long as you correctly source it like on a paper, but if you give credit, is it still stealing? does that mean that in order to use the picture, you'd have to contact the owner of that picture and ask permission? blink.gif

I know. It really does annoy me and just shows me how ignorant some people are. When I do science research for school, I go on Google to find a source for information, but I give the credit to the site source I found the info on, not Google. Google just helps me find sources for what I need.

i tried to put a picture of johnny depp on my birthday cake... but the cake people said i had to getpermission to use his picture, since it may be copyrighted...

so my mom was like 'sure ill just call up johnny right now and ask him' .. it was funny... but i mean.. i guess you do need permission. but i dont know

Um, yeah, that would be considered stealing. XD

Yeah, a lot of students put like "google.com" for all their citations and bibliographies and stuff. But I never really see anyone put online "I got my images from google.com"..

hmmm i didnt really care about those, but you seem really right on what you said right there. i mean if i was a publisher for the writing i did and google is keeping my writing. and someone will use my writing and they will say "i got it from google" heh it sounds like the google is taking all the credits. hmm i never even thought of that, thanks for sharing. hmm i dont know if it annoys me right now but yeah heh. well my school, when we write down the source, we cant say google. we have to write down the actual people who did the statement writing and such. so yeah...so maybe it's your school whose doing that? cause my school doesnt do that. people will get a bad grade if they actually put "google" into their source lol.

that's true but what if you made like a collage or something in the layout, would you rather credit each single image if they were from diferent sites or just google becuase you looked for it through there. i'm pretty sure that if you cite google and what you typed in, other people would get the exact same results anyway, so it doesn't make a difference.

that is dumb

but i say i get my images from google. because you do get them through the search. even if they didnt originate there, i dont pay attention to where they actually come from. if i were to, i could say i get my images from any one of a million random websites, and that would be ridiculous. thus, i recognize the indirect source. im not going to say that google made the images, but really, thats how i found them
