i was wondering if you like it when your bands become too popular??

to me its a pester because alot of the wannabes act like they know the band and stuff after one song...such as my chemical romance and their song "im not okay"...you wont believe how many wannabes talk about my chemical romance now because of their one song "im not okay" even tho they been around for like 3 years!? _dry.gif first album came out like in 2002 or something...so what do you think about the question happy.gif ^...just wondering if im the only one with this opinion hahah

My Chemical Romance has actually been around for about 4 or 5 years if not more actually, I don't listen to manstream so I could really care less, most people havnt heard the band I listen to so they think im weird. I guess not following the crowd isnt cool anymore.

Ehh I dont listen to the radio so I dont have to listen to crappy bands like the postal service. Ok well maybe theyre ok but im just not into them. The Postal Service is actually pretty mainstream in big cities because of constant TV play and Fuse.

I think that if a good band works hard they deserve to become famous. Who cares how many people just like one song or like them because it's cool. If their music changes and you don't like it just listen to their old cds. They deserve it.

Actually, green day has been popular for awhile, this isnt their first time to be on the radio or to be popular. Whoever said that their a new band is an idiot. rolleyes.gif

But anyways, I dont really pay attention to any mainstream, unless a friend plays the radio in the car or something, but ya, I hate mainstream very much. I listen to a large variety of underground music.

i first began with good charlotte. their first cd was totally AWESOME. then teeny boppers came into the scene and ruined it. They brain-washed GC, and now they're total sell outs. then i moved on...

...to fall out boy. sure enough, they're on the road to total stardom and popularity. along with stardom and popularity, attracts teeny-boppers who are only into them because they think the guitarist/vocalist/drummer/bassist etc is hot, and swooning over them just because of one song they like.

sad.gif

so i really hope that any good bands dont go mainstream, cause once they hit the mainstream, thats just like the kiss of death. mad.gif

Senses Fail is already mainstream, just not cross country as bands like GC and Green Day and such. I bet if you go to a big city such as Chicago or New York and visit a large high school about 70-80% of the students will say they like, have heard, or hate Senses Fail. Unless its one of them ghetto schools, I dont think they listen to Senses Fail laugh.gif

I knew that! Call me selfish or whatever you want - I hate it when thirteen year-old girls walk around my school saying, "OH MY GOD I LOVE BILLY TALENT!" *Cough* Well, not Billy Talent [yet], but with My Chemical Romance...

oh ya everybodys always like "Oh, Em Gee Coheed and Cambria sucks why are you so obsessed with them." 99.9% of the time they've only heard A Favor House Atlantic, their worst song. And I've been listening to Weezer, a band thats been around almost 15 years, for 4 years, and everybodys like "Ya BEVERLY HILLS THATS WHERE I WANT TO BE!" and they act obsessed with them when they've only even heard one song...

i don't care.

it just means people won't go 'huh" when i say my favorite bands.

then again, my favorite bands are mainstream.
but oh well.

sucess is kind of the goal of every band- so it's kind of given that if a band you like is good, they'll probably want to be mainstream.

You people can't do anything on how the audience react to the popular/mainstream bands mellow.gif just leave it alone. And I'm not one of those audience who is like "OMFG!!! I sooo love blahblahblah" just because they're popular and shit.

I don't really care if any of my favourite musicians become popular or are popular. I care about the music they fcking make.

Best thing to do is support your music/band.

Music is freedom.

i agree it does ruin it, since lots of ppl just like certain bands because they're popular. but it doesnt mean i hate the band just because they become popular, unless that becoming popular makes them change their sound to more mainstream style... i guess...

I don't really care. _unsure.gif I've been listening to My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and Relient K LONG before they got on MTV. They gained new fans because of their popularity? So be it. The band should be proud...and the true fans should be proud too.

i hate when really good bands go popular. it's happened to lots of bands i like. a really good example is good charlotte...their first cd was amazingly good..the young and the hopeless (which got them popular is alright), and their newest cd just plain sucked. i hate how they have all these teenybopper fans now,and how their music has changed for the worse. my chemical romance is going down the same path....they have a debut album which was awesome, that hardly any of their new "fans" even know about..they have a good 2nd album, are #1 on trl, and now tons of teenyboppers are obsessed with them just because of helena and i'm not ok. i love mcr though, and i really hope their 3rd cd doesn't suck like good charlotte's did. fall out boy is also getting way too popular too fast. sugar we're going down is super overplayed, and now people that never liked them before are obsessed. it's a shame about green day..they've been around for 15 years..and most people have no appreciation for their older(better) stuff. i mean i guess bands deserve to get all the success, but it usually(not always), has a negative effect on their music.
other bands i see this happening to(sadly): relient k, senses fail, and hawthorne heights

^ the young and the hopeless is targeted at teenyboppers.

mayhaps why people think these bands are ruined by popularity is they grow older, and find they like the music less. However, the older music they used to like, and will still like out of nostalgia. when presented with music targeted at the same age group- the one that they have grown out of- they will find it worse than the songs they already knew.

I stopped listening to those [duh]. And right now, I listen to a variety [fav. ones are indie, alterna, electro] of rock music.

This has been happening to me for a while.. The earliest I can remember is Saves the Day and New Found Glory, but yeah, I've gotten to the point where I don't care, I will just drop the band and get a new one. I am NOT LOYAL to the bands I listen to at all. I'm trying to change this about myself, but meh, why try to go to a FOB show when you know a thousand of screaming girls will ruin it for you?

Sometimes. I don't like when people say that they "love" a band only because they're popular. However, if someone truly happens to enjoy the band's music regardless of popularity, I'm cool with that.

If an indie band I love hits mainstream, I'm not going to stop listening to them. I'm actually glad that they're getting the attention they deserve by being signed by a major label.

Same here. I got so offended when these preps were singing I'm Not Okay in a mocking way (but they tried to act as if they're worshipping them). They don't know the REAL work of My Chemical Romance so they should just shut the f*** up..

But if I were a REAL fan and REALLY loyal for the former Underground bands, I would still support them. Just because they went mainstream, it doesn't mean I'd betray my loyalty and leave. That's really not something a true fan would do... Unless you're much more loyal to the underground world than the band itself...

I hate when bands go mainstream. I have to admint, i usually stop listening to them, when they do hit it. or usually i'll just play over their old songs. rock is getting pretty big now. i guess some mainstream bands would have to be...
-fall out boy
-taking back sunday
-greenday
-my chemical romance
-senses fail
-the used
-the starting line
-the all american rejects
-relient k

...and a few others.

i guess I kind of like it when a band I like becomes mainstream, because then at least I can talk about them with other people. I don't have to just listen to them alone, or try to force them on my friends. Like this band called "Ra".

They came out about 2000, with a great cd entitled "From One". I bought it, and couldn't stop listening to it, it was a really solid debut cd.

This year they just released their second cd, called "Duality". And with hit singles "Fallen Angels" and the Police cover "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" it's the 3rd best selling rock cd right now.

My friends actually want to hear these guys and I can talk about them too, and they want to know more about them, so I think it's cool that Ra went mainstream, hopefully you guys hear them soon as well!

Mainstream bands start to suck after they've been overplayed on KIIS FM and MTV. I don't like it, so I start listening to their older stuff more, like I did with Green Day.
