basically, in my personal opinion and belief, the important part of the marriage is that both parties involved have to consent to it.

how would a human who wants to marry their (insert whatever animal you want here) know that the latter has consented or is even willing to marry that human?

i dont think an animal is quite capable of having romantic/sexual/whatever feelings for a human being, much less be intellectually aware of what a marriage means/entails.

and i think (personal opinion people) that this is quite a ridiculous issue to compare against gay marriages.

You're right, we should abolish marriage altogether.

Let people marry each other in their churches. It's not the government's business.

gay people are just two people who would like to join themselves in marraige just like other people can.

a person and an animal are not both humans and therefore don't recieve the basic HUMAN rights.

that was just a way to refute this argument, it doesn't mean that if they can sign then they should get married.

Well why can't a man and his 5 year old daughter get married? I would like to know the reason.

Nobody answer this question please, I would like sadolakced acid to respond (please don't take this personally, SA).

why would you want to get married with your pet...unless you want to do stuff with it you kno "stuff" I think that is pretty low and nasty...if you cant get some with a normall person then go look for a "friend" or go to the strip club...but its tru pets cant really sign papers so how will that go...if u wanna marry your pet bcuz u love him and thats it then w/e floats your boat i guess....silly humans these days..i love my dog but i wont get married with it?...w/e whistling.gif

if the owner wants to be married to his pet, i guess a paw print would suffice as a signature.

they are still considered a minor at 5 years old, and cannot sign many legal documents. therefore, they cannot sign the marriage document. in addition there is a law in most states that states the minimun age for marraige, in my state it's 13 if both parents agree.

furthermore, it is incess and therefore also prohibited.

and to save you the trouble of bringing it up...

if she was 13 and he was 40 and they were not related... this is legal and is actually done in some cultish communities in the US. they're in nevada or something.

however, if the parents agree, and the girl is 'willing' then there is no law that prohibits that.

the moral issues of this, however, prevent this from being common.

Well, marraige should be up to the church. (seperation of church and state) but then, let's take all references to God off of the money, court rooms, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

that would be insane... what if the people who are getting married are another religion? they wouldnt go to the same church as you. ohh yea like letting church handle everything...... their job is not to decide who gets married, their job is to wed people.

Ah yes. I knew you would use this answer.

Pretty much, what you are saying is, that you can't get married to a 5 year old because it's against the law.

Well guess what.

The law says that marriage is between a man and a woman (unless the states decide otherwise). I believe that's what the majority of states have decided.

Gay marriage is as much against the law as incest.

So according to you, gay marriage should not be legal, because it's against the law.

gay marraige is currently illegal in some states. so yes, it's against the law.
so currently gays don't get to get married in those states.

my argument, if you will realize, was in response to your question why shouldn't a 5 year old and a 40 year old get married. this is why. because it is illegal.

however, in states where it is legal, then gays should get married.

if gays wish to get married in thier own states, they must try to get the ban repealed.

however marraige is a right reserved to the states. therefore the federal government cannot pass a law banning or allowing it, it must pass an amendment.

and you are completely right, except for this:
QUOTE
So according to you, gay marriage should not be legal, because it's against the law.

that is not according to me... notice i did not say that incess should not be legal because it's against the law. this is your own conclusion.

which i refute, in that if it were made legal it would not be against the law, and therefore should be made legal (? that's just inversing what you said. )

now if you had said gay marraige should not happen because it's illegal, then that would be what i'm saying.

now, i think if you wish to argue this, we should do so on the gay marraige board.
