This isn't about current policy, this is about IN GENERAL, should the United States impose their ideas and values on others?
Remember, United States is technically plural. Never say The United States should impose its ideas, it's the United States should impose their ideas. |

But what I'm saying is this can directly relate to what's going on currently...as opposed to "environment vs. economy" and "individualism vs. common wealth".

Why can't environment v economy relate to currently?
ANWR, regulation, Yucca Mountain, etc. |

hahah, i was a lurker, but i saw this topic and i had to register!
![]() i'd say that environment vs. economy is indeed pretty easy to apply to real life situations but individual vs. the common good is a bit more abstract. i prefer more pragmatic topics anyway. I really liked the environment vs. economy one though. resolved: that the united states has a moral obligation to promote democratic ideals in other nations. i would've preferred the racial profiling topic, but hey, got what we got :P i think this has plenty of good, pragmatic real-world applications, such as iraq, etc. also notice that the topic does not state IMPOSE.. therefore one could argue that, say, the U.S. sending in diplomats to oversee elections in a fledgeling democracy could be defined as promotion.. just some thoughts. I haven't even debated on this topic yet. First tournament on it next weekend! ![]() yes, here in texas policy is more popular than LD unfortunately. |
