I just want to see what the rap likers have to say about rock.
Just out of curiosity.

List 3 reasons why you think rock sucks.

i'm open minded. i listen to both rock & rap. heck, i listen to the combination of rock/rap. actually i listen to any genre ;] as long as it's good.. but "good" is relative... no one can really define "good"

i agree with synkro..u have to be open minded when it comes to music..i'll be honest i don't like rock all that much..but at the same time i don't hate it. some bands out there are actually pretty good.

i'm not gonna go to some thread [like so many others have done before me..] and start bashing other genres because i respect the fact that other different people have different tastes..but please don't go to a thread when you know that they're gonna talk about rap [or any other type of music.]..and start talking about how they don't have talent and that its not music.. and not expect to get a response..

just 'cause we weren't ignorant enough to diss it doesn't give you the right to be ;o

and rock is way broader than "rap", what with all the alternative, smooth rock, <S>heavy metal</s> hard rock, industrial, grunge, emo, etc etc going on. it's hard to specify exactly WHAT is not likable.

Rock and metal are two very different things. There's also sub-category's of metal. Theres heavy metal, death metal, black metal, viking metal, gothic metal, speed metal, doom metal, electronic metal, power metal, melodic metal, ect..

I love them all. =]

dissing and reasons are different things. if some one states a fully thought out and true reason for disliking rock then i dont see that arrogant at all, im just saying that there are none :P

And i know that rock is broader, i said that it was one of the roots to all types of music. but of course you dont think when "rock" was born it immediately became metal, industrial, gurnge, etc., out of your list.

Well i was just using the same example as you, because you said "if i said rap was better than rock"
I figured that you liked rock, i wasn't trying to imply that you thought rap was better, or that you hated rock.
I've listened to some rap, still do, but my overall opinion is still that rock is better than rap

I use to love both rock and rap but i put all of those down i dont really know what i like. i use to loathe rock but it kinda growns in you depending what it is. Maroon 5 made me like rock.

2. doesnt seem like you need a lot of talent to make a rock song. Unless its playing the instruments.
3. whats the point of rock music in the first place?

I think rock is more about instrumental than lyrics, but they both matter a lot. Singing, they wouldnt be out there if they sounded bad o.O iunno, give examples?

with most of the mainstream rock, the singers tend to NOT have very good voices, yet the music is still very good, and i like most of it. some songs just get really annoying after 6,516,531,785,631 times on the radio a day. but outside of the mainstream, there are some very talented singers out there.... for example : Davey Havok of AFI, Jade Puget of AFI, lead singer of Franz Ferdinand, Ben Burnley of Breaking Benjamin, lead singer of the Killers, lead singer of the Darkness.... theres a lot but i'll stop there.

Rock isn't all screaming...that's heavy metal. I can't stand heavy metal. But I LOVE ROCK! Sometimes I listen to rap too. =)
