be more specific retro. nintendo just hired Reggie Fils-aime. if they keep hiring superpeople like him, I don't see how they can go wrong. Nintendo has been around for over 100 years now. They're not going out of business anytime soon.

edit: hey, did you find this easter egg?

I agree. Nintendo still has a strong handheld market, they'll still be around for a long time.

Lol, that's pretty funny laugh.gif

yup with XB2 and ps3 approaching, nintendo will only be hanging on with their handhelds. but if sony or microsoft decides to blow the market with a new line of handhelds, then i can safely say that at the pace nintendo is going, they will be screwed over in less than 5 years.

its all about the critics, if ps3/xb2 has a wider variety of games, better graphix, hotter looking systems, nintendo has a lot of catching up.
if you asked me, when ps3 and xb2 comes out, ppl will say "bah its jus like ps2/xb/gc nothin special" stuff like that

dont worry though, nintendo has been around realli early. such a big company wont die out that easy

edit: lmfao i forgot to comment on the nintendo.com/status part lol "A-OK" ah wat will they think of next?

Nintendo has been solid in the handheld market, many have tried and none have succeded in competing with the gameboy line.

Nintendo will have better games as they don't have to rely on third parties like microsoft and sony do.

_dry.gif nintendo won't last a day when XB2 and PS3 comes out....xbox is really a lot better than nintendo and so is PS2 so i don't expect any nintendo game console to be better than microsoft and sony...but i gotta admit nintendo's handheld thing is pretty good...even though i really don't like it happy.gif

ummmm, no.

xbox's hardware has the gamecube beat (except for that gargantuan controller), but nintendo has better games and more exclusives. Gamecube has better hardware than the PS2, but their software contracts are at best equal. And the gamecube is the cheapest console, yet it doesn't break easily like the ps2. Gamecube wins.

nintendo owns the handheld market. period.

name a good game on xbox other than Steel Battallion and Halo (actually Panzer Dragoon isn't so bad). then, take out the ones that are avaliable on other consoles. not left with much eh?

Ah yes, a hard drive, my old computer had a hard drive, does it mean that it's better than xbox? i already said xbox had better hardware, but not much good software to back it up. And it comes at a higher price than gamecube. And it's heavy as a sack of lead.

We'll always have our difference of opinion but you have to look at every aspect. I have, and I think that Gamecube beats the xbox.

they didn't. i think hudsonsoft made bomberman.

but nintendo brought us mario, samus, link, kirby and (my favorite) ness. Guess where Final Fantasy made it's debut. on a nintendo console.

nintendo is not going anywhere in the near future. Reggie Fils-aime is going to make sure of that.

XBOX -- best graphics, features, online capabilities.
PS2 -- the original, best racing/sports games, best controllers
Gamecube -- best games, most innovative (mini CD's), cheapest, and smallest.
PC -- owns all.

The end.

PC's aren't standard. So when you say PC, you could be talking about that 30 mhz fart in your school's basement or that dual processor speed machine in your bedroom.

I argue the PS2 controller claim. Dreamcast has better controllers.

nintendo better not be like sega! heck no. segas good and all with many classic games.. [sonic fan right here!] and nintendo has classic games. its really the last system out there that can still pull out old school games.. and make them new.. [personally i think putting old school games into new school systems is a bad idea, except NINTENDO] ill put money on nintendo anyday. :)

nintendo has no future because they refuse to open up new avenues instead they stick for old titles..dont get me wrong those titles do great but after like 8/9 years u eventually have to look other places and nintendo has not..a kiddy product will not survive in todays age.. and thats the stereotype that nintendo has not really tried to dispute..so unless they revamp the message they put out they will fall sooner or later

They don't need to dispute the kiddy rep. There are plenty of non-"kiddy" games on nintendo consoles. Plus,

Yeah. You can't call that kiddy.

As for the same titles over and over again, what about square? How many final fantasy's have they made?

Nintendo has nowhere to go but up. With the AMAZING sales over holidays last year due to the price drop, and the steady control of the handheld market. The PSP is a media driven device, hardly for gaming, and wont impace the handheld market hardly at all (Granted, more than the Ngage, but mediocre nonetheless ^.^). The DS will be amazing, and Nintendo still has its legendarily best selling games such as Zelda, Mario, Starfox, and Metroid.

The PS2 has good RPGs, but Square is slowly coming back to its roots, and without them, Sony has very little to compete with.

The Xbox has Halo, which sucks, and has been LOSING money for Microsoft the entire times its been out.

How can anyone compete with Nintendo? This juggernaut has been around since the 14th century, starting with a card game and blossomed into what it is today. Nintendo has revolutionized and reinvented gaming over and over and over. Anyone who argues with that, can read a history book.

Oh, and check the sig.

it seems to me that most people keep on forgetting that nintendo's business is worldwide and not just in the US. Yeah, GC is owning the XBOX in the asian countries, cause the Japs know better. Nintendo will NOT stagger. People go on saying that Nintendo's status will be a downfall because they lost money, when they don't forget to mention that Microsoft also lost $$ from the X-Box.

It should be clear to everyone that Nintendo is winning not only in the handheld area, but also game consoles in general.

Like it says on that nintendo status page...they're A-OK.

i dont think that will happen. nintendo makes all the handheld systems while microsoft and sega don't. so it seems nintendo is still in business as long as they have a new handheld [or a new game console] to keep up with ps3 and xb2.

Very true. The sales of the GBA and SP rival that of the PS2 which is the top selling hardware in consoles.

See, Nintendo sticks to its roots, thats how it gets the real gamers in. They have spawned classic games, created genres, and started eras. Something as little as Halo coming out makes people forget where gaming started.

As far as Im concerned, gaming begins with 'N', and ends with 'O'.

There's no way that Nintendo will just keel over an die. They merely appeal to a different market segment than Sony and Microsoft. Plus with the Nintendo DS, it is in direct competition with the Sony PSP which means that it will prevent Sony from gaining that much of the market segment early one. (I'm talking direct competition as in age of people being targeted) Sony PSP looks good on paper, but how will it be in reality. Once people realize they are getting ripped off buying propritary movies and music they'll have second thoughts. Only people with money to burn will continue to buy movies and music to play on their PSP's or they will slow down their buying which will hurt Sony slightly. Even if the next Nintendo system can't compete with PS3 and Xbox2 performancewise, it doesn't matter becaues their market segment is different and it's all about the games. It doesn't matter if your graphics are slightly off, I mean you didn't see everyone just ditch their PS2 in favor of Xbox when it came out. Plus there's the issue of Pricing. Nintendo's products have usually been priced lower than Microsoft and Sony, hence creating more competetion. With more competition, it's will probably hurt all three companies a bit, but ultimatly mean profit for us consumers as better games and products come to market.

I just recently read that and another great article on how strongly Nintendo is doing.

Makes me anxious for what's to come with the Revolution. the big N is smart&innovative, I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next gen. James... if you've gotten your hands on WarioWare Twisted, then I'm really hoping the Rev's controllers will feature the gyro.... mhmmm

Ok, you guys, It all comes down to the people really. Nintendo can be the best company on the block, but it wouldn't matter if everyone skipped them and went to a different company. Think about, the hardware and brand names only contribute so much. It comes down the to audience.

What? So what about the audience? Are you saying Nintendo doesn't have an audience? huh.gif

Haha, I'm just really trying to understand your post. You could argue all three other ways: It wouldn't matter if everyone skipped (choose one:)Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo to go to a different company, that (chosen) company would go down.

Hardware and 'brand name'(I'm guessing you mean games?) does obviously contribute a lot, that's how a company get its audience.

Exactly correct sir.

How many people have told me that "n1nt3nd0 is t3h suxxx00r" because they didnt have any 3rd party support? But now theyve got the whole shebang, and its coming strong. People play PS2 because of Square Enix and the like, and Xbox because of Halo. Theres no other reason to play them. A system, nor company, gets a audience by sitting and looking pretty. They get it by games, and Nintendo makes the best on the planet.
