LONDON - A woman in Mexico gave birth to a healthy baby boy after performing a Caesarean section on herself with a kitchen knife, doctors said Tuesday.

The unidentified 40-year-old woman, who lived in a rural area without electricity, running water or sanitation and was an eight-hour drive from the nearest hospital, performed the operation when she could not deliver the baby naturally.

She had lost a previous baby due to labor complications.

“She took three small glasses of hard liquor and, using a kitchen knife, sliced her abdomen in three attempts ... and delivered a male infant that breathed immediately and cried,” said Dr R.F. Valle, of the Dr. Manuel Velasco Suarez Hospital in San Pablo, Mexico.

Does anyone agree with me that this is probably the most painful experience a woman could ever go through? The intensity of the pain is probably beyond my imagination since I'm a guy...but just reading that article almost had me cryin for the poor lady.

No it would actually feel as if though you were stabbing yourself in the abdomen three times and slicing yourself open, then pulling your guts out.

I don't think the duck tape could match up to that . . . that would be more like a bikin wax.

god. she's really brave. but then again a mother's love for her baby is stronger than any force/word/action. not all though. but some. i know of some people that shouldnt have babies. shouldnt even consider it.

If you feel sympathy for that woman, there's a lot more you need to feel sympathy for. There's a lot of women who go through the same thing; like giving birth without a doctor around. Maybe 100+ miles away from the hospital. It's common somewhere in the native lands. I guess she needed to make that baby live. I bet she'll grow up to be a good mother.
