Most people I've talked to about this are so set in their way and thinking that they wont take in any thing about the swastika, such as the GOOD the symbol actually stands for. The Swastika was around a longggggggg ass time before the nazis ever took it in, and ever since swastika has been marred by that event.
In the earlier days the Swastika normally stood for the sun, power, good luck even in the early twentieth century the swastika was still a symbol that was used commonly for it's true meaning. For instance, the swastika was a common decoration that was on cigarette cases, postcards, coins, and buildings. During World War I the swastika could even be found on the shoulder patches of the American 45th Division and on the Finnish air force until after World War II. I've worn the swastika out before and had it up on my website once. I got called an ignorant nazi kid and other names...when really in my mind they are the ones being ignorant. There is a great debate as to what the swastika means now. For 3,000 years, the swastika meant life and good luck. But because of the Nazis, it has also taken on a meaning of death and hate. These conflicting meanings are causing problems in today's society. For Buddhists and Hindus (I'm buddhist btw), the swastika is a very religious symbol that is commonly used. This guy Chirag Badlani i read about went to make some photocopies of some Hindu Gods for his temple that while standing in line to pay for the photocopies, some people behind him in line noticed that one of the pictures had a swastika and they called him a NAZI! Since the Nazis were so effective at their use of the swastika emblem, many dont even know any other meaning for the swastika. Can there be two completely opposite meanings for one symbol? So, I ask, what are your thoughts ![]() |

Yes ... Keystone Regulars all the way!
Our platform consists of essentially two parts: - Kick all non-Pennsylvanians out of the University of Pennsylvania, making it much easier for Pennsylvanian Regulars to get in. - Put a huge poster of Alex Shaw on the main commons. Our plan is to control a majority of seats in the Penn student government by 2007. It's a little ambitious, but with the right batch of bribery and political assassination, we could pull it off... metaphorical political assassination, that is. |

it seems people will assume any symbol is bad if it's not the one they wear. like how the pentigram was originally for wicca practices but now that satan worshipers use it that's all it means.
i'm going with people choose good over bad and it never changing back. i know when i see a swasticka, iron cross, or confederate flag i don't appreciate it (when i se a swasticka i wanna bash the person's head in with a pipe. i'm not too fond of skinheads) |

fagg used to mean ciggarette, fudge used to be an acronym for fornication. Gay used to mean happy. These all beautiful words have been destroyed by certain groups. So i guess the swastika can only mean death and hate until the years of wrong usage can be undone.

Ryfita, the Iron Cross was in use from 1870 and is still in use in the German military today -- it has more of an association with the Prussian military than the Nazis. I have a replica that I wear some times.

Wrong, the swastika was never used as a good luck symbol or happy symbol. YOu are mistaken. The swasitka is a mirror image of that symbol.
![]() Swastika ![]() The religious symbol. As good as one that I could find on google. Its also known as yungdrung apparently. Next time, try to get your information correct. Goodbye. |

QUOTE like how the pentigram was originally for wicca practices but now that satan worshipers use it that's all it means. One point upward, a pentagram was a symbol for Jesus Christ. The 5 points being his head, arms, and legs upon the cross. One point downward, it symbolizes a goat. There are different ways of seeing the goat. One being a symbol in itself for the devil. Another may be used for Wiccan beliefs and whatnot.. I wouldn't know. I am not Wiccan. And to th5418: If it is a mirror image, it is seen as the same thing. |

QUOTE(ryfitaDF @ Aug 25 2004, 12:45 AM) all i know is i saw a picture of Irwin Romell with one on and i never looked at it the same again First of all, it's Erwin Rommel, second of all he plotted to kill Hitler and was executed for it. Hardly a Nazi. Most of the German generals in WWII were anti-Nazi... the vast majority believed Hitler was a fool, and several of them tried to assassinate him on several occasions. But for the same reason democrat generals like Wesley Clark and Norman Schwarzkopf followed the orders of Republican President Bush Sr., most of the generals followed Hitler's orders, but Hitler was a control freak and didn't let the generals do their own thing which cost them many battles. |
