[Urgent!] Some Help W/ Math?, ...Finding The Median

'k.

My friend is like REALLY botherin' me w/ this math problem rite now... and it's buggin' me out... literally.

As I do not know the answer myself, so I am wonderin' if the kind people @ CreateBlog could help!

Why is it important to put the numbers in order? [As when finding the median.]

That title isn't really helpin' me out... is it?

Confuses some pplz it does.

The question was that why is it that you have to put the numbers in order from least to greatest or vice versa?

Why must you put in order?

(I know how to find the mean, median, mode, and range. So if you're 'bout to answer among the lines of that... don't answer.)

So you can find the median. DUH. The median is the middle number . . . hence the word median = medium = middle. happy.gif

I meant why do you HAVE to put it in order.

I know how to find the mean, median, mode, AND range!

I wanted to know why do you HAVE to put the #'s in order 4rm least to greatest!

WHY?!!!

You have to find the ACCURATE middle.

EX

10, 11, 22, 22, 23, 24.

In order.
Now you'd have to find it.

BUT WHY DO YOU HAVE TO PUT THE NUMBERS IN FROM LEAST TO GREATEST OR VICE VERSA?

SO YOU CAN FIND THE MIDDLE! You can't find the middle number that is accurate if they were out of order. IT'S COMMON SENSE!

u dont have to, i usually mark out numbers when im lazy to put them in order, the smallest, than the largest, and over and over til i get 1 number left over

that kinda lost me there..... LoL

yeah median=middle=medium and if you dont have the numbers in order from least to greastest than you'll get the question/test wrong or whatever....range sometimes always gets me, but I know it now like the back of my hand. LoL

Because you can only find the median by putting it in order, and seeing what number is in the middle. That's crucial. happy.gif You can always use a calculator to help you do that.

you have to put them in order because your teachers tell u so.. as more grades u go through school.. u get to do less and less stuff.

ahh, my algebra II teacher told me to stop showing when i subtract or add things from either side.. NOOO, what will i ever do now... lmfao... yeah.

ok, you write the numbers in order so you can find the middle number. what i do is tick off and smallest number and then the largest number.
for ex- in 4 6 12 21 39, i would cross out 4, then cross out 39 because those are the largest and smallest number. then i would continue in this way until there was one number left. however, if there's two numbers left, you find the average (mean) of those two numbers to find the median.
eh, i hope that made sense.

Median is the middle number. If you have a whole load of numbers, your going to have to order it. Otherwise, it probably will get all mixed up in your head.

wow you need to chill the F out. isn't it obvious? you know what median is, so look at it logically honey. you want to find the middle because with both mean, median, and mode, you're trying to find ONE number out of the set to represent the whole thing. if you find the MEDIAN it's basically more or less around that number. it's' not CRUCIAL to use median. mean is always the most accurate form of representation, but median works too, just not as accurantly. so to answer your question, the median is found in order for someone to represent a set of numbers. and next time you act like a goddamn four year old DEMANDING answers from us in a tantric fit, say THANK YOU when someone gives you the answer.

no no no ur getting it all wrong... u dont HAVE to put it in order, but its jus easier and more accurate. if u can do calculus in ur head, u dont HAVE to write down the stuff on a scrap piece of paper.... get wat im saying?

but if u haf a long list of numbers n u hafta find the median, its jus way easier.

like 15, 17, 18, 19, 24, 35, 85 median is the 19 because it is in the of the group. but if it were written like 24, 17, 18, 85, 19,15 and it asked u to find median, its pretty hard not to put it in order first.

Taken from Spark Notes and basically tell you the same thing the other people are saying.... You list them in order because it must be in a particular set.

Mean isn't always the most accurate. There's ALWAYS exceptions. Example: 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 100000000000. The mean isn't very representative of this data, is it.
