Anyone could preach for hours about saving the whales or making world trade fairer for developing countries, when asked what ideas and issues interest them most. These are all worthy causes and deserve global attention, and I have never heard an argument against saving the whales but if there were not contradicting opinions I suppose this would not be a cause at all and we'd still have ample amounts of these gentle giants blissfully roaming the seas, but that’s not the point. The point is that there is one single issue which demands our immediate attention and must be prioritized above all else, and this is the regression of the human race. As the years progress, we as a people are witnessing a decline in simple common sense. We are just plain getting stupid, and no one seems to notice and no one seems to care.
The unfortunate truth is that any intelligent person who picks up a copy of The Daily Post would find that it is written for someone with the reading level of a third grader and the attention span of someone half that age. The media is not the only aspect of American society which has been effected by this gradual collapse of logic, our political system has become a global laughing stock what with Florida recounts and California recall elections in which the most coherent campaign speech is " Hasta la vista, baby". It doesn’t end there... not by a long shot. It goes all the way to the nation’s capitol, to the president and the leader of the free world, "One of the greatest things about books is sometimes there are some great pictures" -George W. Bush US News & World Report January 3, 2000 The saddest thing about this predicament is that these examples are not exceptional cases; but alas they are the expected, they are the status quo, they are the norm. Every poison has a remedy and this foul beast, too, has its nemesis. The few that have thus far resisted this demon’s siren song must come together to destroy him! There are a plethora of things that succeed in lowering this country's collective IQ on a daily basis, and eliminate them we must. We should be the first to take up arms to free the nation from the manacles of reality TV and beer helmets. This should be our national call to arms for the last of our kind, the few that have not fallen victim to this wicked temptress. For if America’s fascination with all things inane is not soon reversed, we will be the ones in dire need of rescue and one would hope that the whales would be kind and intelligent enough to save us. |

Whoo. Nice.
![]() I agree. Many Americans are falling victim to the pulls of evil from every degrading source, and their minds are being numbed as slaves to the order and form of society, where they are able to watch such events happen to others but do nothing about it. |

QUOTE(hippo @ Aug 19 2004, 12:29 PM) Whoo. Nice. ![]() I agree. Many Americans are falling victim to the pulls of evil from every degrading source, and their minds are being numbed as slaves to the order and form of society, where they are able to watch such events happen to others but do nothing about it. It's too bad we're the only two who seem to care at all about it seeing as no one else has responded to this topic. Edit - Another silly Bush quote: "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." |

I agree. It's sad. In my civics class last year, the kid next to me asked me how to spell "misdemeanor" out of all seriousness.

Bush is hardly a good example of the human race.
Nonetheless, I agree with you. Humans aren't incredibly intelligent, for the most part, but we have our moments. (in the entire history of the human race, yes we do.) /edit QUOTE The Devil is at work turning the human race into mindless zombies of decay. No wonder there's been so many undead films in the making lately. Sure, let's blame the devil; the bane of the christian society. |

Bush was trying to be funny there, because back home he is one of the smarter texans. In playboy the pictures are more fun than the articles.

QUOTE(sikdragon @ Aug 20 2004, 6:22 PM) humans at their mental peak use 7% of their brain. That doesn't explain much to me... According to you Einstein, Plato, Ben Franklin, Sigmund Freud all use 7% of their brain, but they're still noted as great thinkers. I think it's because people do not make use of their logic that they fall into decadence... |

The OP was well said, and yes there is a general decline in the human race. An ever widening gap is becoming to appear between the smart, and the not so smart. This gap must be leapt across at a young age otherwise it will never be able to be crossed. Strict parents help small childern across this gap. We may be advancing our technologies and our sciences but we are moving farther and farther back through time as a race. The only way to stop this is for a Communist Revolution to spread around the world. JK, that wouldn't be that great, and it wouldn't work. But the world will soon be like that short story and the movie based off of the short story who's name currently eludes me where everyone was made to be average and the smart and the dumb were shunned and forced to breed with each other inorder to create average people. But there were still smart people who ran all the countries and industry and what not otherwise the world would like die and everyone would die and the human race wouldn't exist because average people are too dumb to do anything on their own.

QUOTE(Kathleen @ Aug 20 2004, 6:14 PM) ![]() ![]() Except that some still do, like my parents, I wish they don't care about my grades. Let's see even if I have double A in the semester for every class, and get one B in the Final Exam for English, they are like "you are dumb, why did I get a dumb kid." Wow, no wonder I have self-confidence issues. |

Well my mom yelled at me for doing too well on the SAT (1590) because she couldn't have the satisfaction of forcing me in a prep class, so that is much weirder than your parents yelling at you for getting a B.

I wish I didn't have to say this but I agree. People aren't using their brains anymore. Just yesterday I had to solve a simple math problem but felt too lazy and pulled out a calculator. Technology and the media is to blame...partly. I think by knowing we don't have to use our brains, we become lazy and we dont force our selves.

I know that my geometry teacher, even though she was slightly psychotic, she made sure that we knew how to do math equations without calculators, you know? We shouldn't rely on technology too much. |

Actually, in advanced math, most stuff is done by calculator...
It's how to set up the problem that's more important to do by hand. |

Well in a lot of Asian countries/communities you're practically forced to be intelligent.

QUOTE(ComradeRed @ Aug 22 2004, 5:32 PM) It's something you're born with, you can't be forced to be intelligent. That's what I've been trying to tell my parents. They expect me to be good at everything...and I mean everything. They call me dumb sometimes too because I'm horrible at math. I've been noticing that my intelligence is declining somewhat also. When I was in elementary school, I was pretty sharp (brag brag). Seriously, I was but, now it's like...what was the capital of that country again? Yeah...I'm getting dumber every year...lol. |

Knowing the capitals of all the countries just shows you're good at memorizing... Intelligence is something like knowing how to solve a problem you've never seen before.
