I was being bored and was looking at random friends away messages (what a life I have, haha rolleyes.gif ) whistling.gif and I came across one that made me think.. huh.gif

"Can blind people see dreams? Do they even dream?"

being the dummy I am, I dont know pinch.gif

can they see what they think the objects would look like if they were able to see? or is it an audio sensory experience involving the remaining senses?

Well, I wouldn't know because I'm blind, but I imagine that they would. Perhaps they see things in their way. As in, they dream up things as they think it's like. I'm not sure, though.

people who are blind since birth have no visual dreams.. those who were blinded because of some accidents have visual dreams.. that's what one of my schoolmates told me.. im not sure if it's true.. _unsure.gif

I don't think so.
I mean, if you think about it, the main thing about dreams is that you see things. You don't feel, taste, smell, or hear anything. You just see things. And since blind people don't have the luxury to actually see antyhing, then they probably don't have any mental images that can show in dreams.
Two cents.

Good question. From what I have heard, blind people will dream with the sensory information that is/has been available to them. So if they've never seen, they will dream vivid smells and hear sounds and 'feel' presences and environments. Whereas, someone who went blind after having been a seeing person, might occasionally dream in images. _smile.gif

oo this is a good question.
it depends
if you were born blind then you would know what things look like when you dream
but if you were born "seeing" and then became blind you would be able to remember what things look like and then they would be able to see the things that they dream unless it was some totally new invention that they have never seen then i dunno.

but ya thats just what i think ermm.gif

Hmm. That's a good question. Probably they just imagine what things look like through what they feel.

Greetings!!

God created us in such a similar ways. some of us may be born blind. while others deaf. watever da setback is, imma sure God wouldn't deprieve his children of other abilities. if He was to take away our senses, He would have enhance another sense of ours or even add in da sixth sense or something. well, i hope ya see ma point aight?! so do blind ppl dreams. i would say yes!!

if youre born blind you dont see dreams, but if you go blind, you can still see them, but they start to fade and eventually you cant see them anymore.

I think even if they don't know what things actually look like, they'll still see things as they imagined it to be.

To answer the question, I don't know tongue.gif I think they will dream, because it's not actually seeing with the eyes, is it? wacko.gif

I found these online:

QUOTE
Yes, blind people do dream. What they see in their dreams depends on how much they could ever see. If someone has been totally blind since birth, they only have auditory dreams. If someone such as I, has had a measure of sight, then that person dreams with that measure of sight. I still dream as though I can see, colors included. For people I've met since, their faces are just blurs or how I imagine they look. To me, someone like my mother looks forever 30.

QUOTE
As stated above, everyone dreams. In general, people's dream experience is similar to their waking experience. That is, while most sighted people's dreams are primarily visual, blind people dream more an auditory, tactile, and other sense modalities.People who lose their sight very early (before age five) apparently experience no visual imagery in their dreams. Visual imagery is variable for those who lose their sight between ages five and seven. People who lose their sight after age seven almost always have some level of visual imagery present in their dreams.

i was rapping in my dream a few days ago and i heard myself... rolleyes.gif

but i dunno.. maybe they imagine what seeing is like and just project it in their head when they're asleep.. or maybe they never have visual dreams and just sleep and dont remember any dreams at all everyday. i do that sometimes.

They dream about being able to see again; duh.

Anyway, you guys should try to know how they feel. Trust me, when one strong sense is like.. not too good, your other senses get better.
