Do y'all have friends who will shit all over the internet because they're "too old for it" or "they can have face to face interaction, don't need internet to meet people," etc?

I've met plenty of awesome people (f****ts too) via the interwebz, lots of conversation happens, lots of interests explored, lots of music spread around, lots of information and just overall communication skills via text developed. I've got a friend who's 23 who likes to shit on forums and shit (albeit she's a good person and not a moron, just closed minded to certain shit) [btw shit theme going on, shit] and when I'm talking to her on aim using acronyms and shortcuts commonly used on the internet she explains she doesn't understand what I'm trying to say because she's "too old." Bullll shit.

if thats the case, demand she returns to the kitchen?

But in all seriousness, I never could understand that either as in this day and age you really dont have the luxury of being too old for computers and stuff otherwise you just wont have a job or be useful to any career.

yeah this is annoying to me also. my girlfriend does this a lot. she doesn't say she's too old, she just doesn't really give a shit about the internet and doesn't understand the world that exists on it.

There are middle-aged people who know the most common acronyms and slang used online, so I agree that your 23-year-old friend is BSing it. I've made a lot of good friends online and met some of them in person, which has been great. I'd rather talk face-to-face than through Facebook, email, or IM, but sometimes you have to make do with those methods of communication because it can be inconvenient to call or text people in different timezones and with way different schedules than you have.

My mom knows the acronym stuff... she types up text messages faster than I do. I do think, though, that some people become a little too dependent on Internet. I know a few people who would probably have a mental breakdown if they couldn't get on Facebook for a couple of days. And I'm sure there are some people who wouldn't know how to find their answer to their question without Google.

^For real. They want answers, not links.

And dude, I'm just tired of getting weird looks whenever I talk about it. Like we all know that there are certain things that get popular in phases on the internet. Right now around IRL friends I feel like a complete idiot when I start a sentence with "haha for a while it was really popular on the internet to say ____", because their reaction, if not a confused stare, is a complete lack of interest. Talking to any of you guys is different because then it's like "lol have you seen that one meme where ____" and then the other person at least knows what I'm talking about, even if they haven't seen it yet.

..Pretty much the only cool thing I can talk to my friends about is Star Wars. Anything else gets a fake nod/smile at best.

I just realized that I THINK this makes a whole lot of sense, but I haven't slept. I just got off work (had to be there at 5am to do truck and it's now 7, so yay for wasting my morning) and I'll probably think this is ridiculous later on when I read it.

Only time I get pissy about internet acronyms, slang, l33t speak and so on is if people use them in business related emails. You'd be surprised (or not) at how often I see this.

You are an awesome mom and middle-aged person (if you can even say that 30-something is middle-aged, because I don't consider 30 to be old), so you're an exception.

That's strange; I never even use slang or colloquialisms in school or work emails, so thinking about adults doing it is odd.
