I've never used Photoshop but I have made some pretty good avatars in MS Paint...
You should be able to make one in Photoshop. Avatars are 100x100 pixels.

well usually ms paint comes with the computer..but not on mine cause my comp is weird so i downloaded it..i forget from where. just google it.
