Band layout problems, Problems when checking in other browsers Options

Hey everyone,

I used the A1Bassline's tutorial and created the following page: www.myspace.com/jdeicher

It's pretty close to what I want when viewed in Firefox, but we have all sorts of problems in IE:

-Gaps in the sliced masthead
-A blue semi-transparent background showing up from the left side (.PNG) part of the masthead
- The "Upcoming Shows" header being pushed down
- Spacing being different which causes things like the "about" section to be hidden under an overlap of the left margin background

I'm thinking I probably need to move the whole left margin further to the left to solve overlap problems but I'm worried that doing so will just bring other problems of showing the text that's hidden underneath.

How do you make it look as good as possible in both browsers (Safari's pretty close to the Firefox view)?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Thanks for taking the time to check us out. Rather than putting a bio here, I thought I'd try telling it myself. My name is JD Eicher, and beyond my love for music, there isn't a whole lot of romance to the story. Unfortunately, I didn’t grow up in the wilderness playing handcrafted pan flutes, and I haven't hitchhiked around the globe writing poetry and painting houses. At a very young age, though, music was very much a part of me. As I began playing, guitar became a release – no matter the source of the stress. Eventually, I started writing my own material, and I began performing in groups and as a solo act. It was the solo act that always remained constant, though, and I kept releasing material, hoping to find my sound. Now I’ve found some musicians – affectionately known as “the Goodnights” – who are helping me get there. They're a great group of guys that share my passion, and it has been wonderful working with them so far. We hope you enjoy what you hear, and we truly appreciate your support. I think that, with music, the only thing more gratifying than playing for yourself is knowing that your work resounds with someone else.

2. I have a feeling the blue background is because you're using IE6. IE6 doesn't support alpha transparency in PNG images; IE7 and IE8 do, as well as every other modern browser.

3. For the upcoming shows, it's not just in IE that it gets pushed down. It's also in Firefox if you have Adblock Plus installed, since getting rid of the advertisement moves everything that's not positioned absolutely up 90 pixels.

Get rid of the upcoming shows banner as you have it now:

I tried this, which helped keep the left margin's background from overlapping the text, but somehow it added an overlap on the right side, covering part of the masthead, about text, friends, etc. I wasn't sure what might fix that, so do you have a suggestion? This is only occurring in IE. Another minor problem that I had noticed before and is still there is a hint of orange text over the Comments header...I'm wondering if I need to change all of my headers to the stylesheet like you recommended changing for the Upcoming Shows? I think i would need to do it for blog and comments.

Also, now I'm noticing in Firefox that text that should be hidden is coming through to the left of the music player and in between the merch and upcoming shows sections, and the Comments header was pushed out of line to the right.

Thanks for taking the time to check us out. Rather than putting a bio here, I thought I'd try telling it myself. My name is JD Eicher, and beyond my love for music, there isn't a whole lot of romance to the story. Unfortunately, I didn’t grow up in the wilderness playing handcrafted pan flutes, and I haven't hitchhiked around the globe writing poetry and painting houses. At a very young age, though, music was very much a part of me. As I began playing, guitar became a release – no matter the source of the stress. Eventually, I started writing my own material, and I began performing in groups and as a solo act. It was the solo act that always remained constant, though, and I kept releasing material, hoping to find my sound. Now I’ve found some musicians – affectionately known as “the Goodnights” – who are helping me get there. They're a great group of guys that share my passion, and it has been wonderful working with them so far. We hope you enjoy what you hear, and we truly appreciate your support. I think that, with music, the only thing more gratifying than playing for yourself is knowing that your work resounds with someone else.

Thanks for taking the time to check us out. Rather than putting a bio here, I thought I'd try telling it myself. My name is JD Eicher, and beyond my love for music, there isn't a whole lot of romance to the story. Unfortunately, I didn’t grow up in the wilderness playing handcrafted pan flutes, and I haven't hitchhiked around the globe writing poetry and painting houses. At a very young age, though, music was very much a part of me. As I began playing, guitar became a release – no matter the source of the stress. Eventually, I started writing my own material, and I began performing in groups and as a solo act. It was the solo act that always remained constant, though, and I kept releasing material, hoping to find my sound. Now I’ve found some musicians – affectionately known as “the Goodnights” – who are helping me get there. They're a great group of guys that share my passion, and it has been wonderful working with them so far. We hope you enjoy what you hear, and we truly appreciate your support. I think that, with music, the only thing more gratifying than playing for yourself is knowing that your work resounds with someone else.

That seems to have fixed any overlap problems that interfered with the blog post titles and about section, but part of the hidden profile info can still be seen to the left of the music player. I tried making the background image a little wider but that didn't work; I guess it's just the width of that column? Any ideas?

Look for this near the top of your codes:

Replace the first value with -10 and the second with -60. If those aren't enough, just keep lowering the values until they are.
