Getting a mac. Options

What do you think is the cheapest way to get a mac? My internship requires/advises me to get a mac and the cs4 suite. So im gonna get a 15 inch macbook and I need photoshop, flash, and illustrator. After effects and dreamweaver would be great bonuses but they only use text editors to make their sites.

So would the cheapest way to get a mac be by using a student discount? I heard I could get a 10-15 percent discount. And i heard I could get the web premuim pack for like 400 bucks with student discount. Not sure if I should get the web premuim or the production premuim because the production premuim has, ps, illustrator, flash and after effects.

My brother has a buddy who could get me a large discount since he used to work for apple. I could try and convince him to talk to him.

Depends on where you order. Where I ordered mine, I, apparently, could have ordered my software when I was in high school. You just have to follow their rules for proving that you're eligible, via school report card/ID (sometimes picture ID is a must).



For the Mac, my mac is actually a refurb. It was around $1800 total after everything, and it has better specs than my brother's, which was around $2200? Somewhere around there.

What is wrong with refurbished? There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with it. Everything is wiped clean. New software. It still gives you all of the warranties and Apple Care.

I would just get a Mac mini. You can use whatever screen you're using for your desktop, and it'll be way cheaper than a new Macbook.

I've always purchased Macs from Apple's online store. You can occasionally get better deals at other places like MacMall, but I think Apple's store has the best service and the full range of available options.

Also, Apple doesn't actually check if you're affiliated with a college when you select the educational discount, so you could just say you're a student. I think you get $100-$200 off.

P.S. There is no 15-inch MacBook -- you probably mean the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

But it looks kind of like, student discounts and employees are in the same boat so maybe the discounts are the same.

Although they are somewhat expensive, don't sweat the price, they pay for themselves in the long run. Just get whatever discounts you can, and if you can't find the software for cheap, pirate that shit.

Upgrades come every other season so they just got all the new macbooks and stuff like like a month ago (spring), so probably, in September, they'll upgrade the specs on the models, probably the same time as the release of snow leopard. Or just shortly after..

Well, my advice is spend the money now, before college comes, and you have like 100 other things that have to be paid for. That one macbook pro should last you a very long time. Also get apple care. Especially for someone like you that tinkers around.

anyways, on whether they check or not it really depends where you go. in the store, they asked to see my college ID and online, columbia has their own portal where you have to log-in to the school site with your UNI before buying anything.

My student discount on apple products last time I checked was $50 something. My developer discount was more than that, but cost more to be a developer.

You really shouldn't use your brothers account at all. Because with the Adobe software you have to prove eligibility too. And they'll need YOUR NAME and for me it was a school record, which of course will need to have YOUR NAME on it too.

Tax was nothing, plus the AAFES stores sell refurbished electronics and don't tell you about it, as was the case with my Sony TV, my xBox and my printer.

I also got a state discount too.

If you are related to anyone in the military you qualify for the AAFES Apple discount as well. Per what the Apple Store dude told me, but he was an idiot, so who knows.
