So...I guess it always differs depending where you are and who you are with (if you're with a large group of asians, or if you're only one in a crowd of white people)...but, here in the US, is there a general perception of Asians?

I know some people can be a bit more ignorant than others, and I'd like to think that most people aren't. Its just that sometimes, I get a bit surprised when people who I don't know misjudge me and ask where I come from (as in, I'm like a tourist...) or have certain expectations about me...?

I don't hang around tons of asains...why? They all speak the same language, but different from mine. Around here, I'm one of few who are filipino; everyone else is korean.
I don't get "misjudged" because I don't hang around them.
Though I still get that "well you're asian, of course you're good at math" thing or whatever, ya know?

It's whatever; just take it and leave

I live in New York City, where there are a lot of Asians, specifically Chinese people. I guess general misconceptions/stereotypes that non-Asians have about Chinese people is that we're cheap, loud (okay, this one isn't a misconception--big family dinners at restaurants can get pretty loud), smart at math and science, get flipped out at and/or beaten if we (kids) don't get all A's in school, and know martial arts (but I don't think I've ever met a non-Asian who asked if I know karate/kungfu/etc.). I have gotten quite a few people who asked where I'm from, like just because I'm not white then I must have been born in Asia. I always tell them my parents are from Guangzhou and Hong Kong, but that I was born and raised in NYC.

I find it funny,..
From my experience, the people that were born elsewhere and raised in America don't get asked about it...But the people that were born here do.
But that's just me and here in little old VA

Hahah, I live in the Bay Area, and there's tons of Asians, so I don't really notice anything.

But I went to a school in Oregon for a year, and about 95% of the school was white, and they assumed I was from China and started speaking in slow, broken English, assuming this would make me able to understand.

It really depends on what area you're in.

I live in a HIGHLY populated area of Korean people. Literally, 2 out of the 5 high schools here are like 90% Korean. Other than that, there are some idiots who downgrade the asian language by saying ching chong to every asian they see because it's to hard for their dumb brains. Other than that, I only get asked if Im a FOB when Im speaking Korean
